Quartet Movie Analysis

Great Essays
A movie or book review can be something that is not easy to do unless you find one that is interesting and really keeps your interest. I chose to watch the movie Quartet and do my review on it. Quartet is a heartfelt movie that grabs you from the beginning with the witty conversations and zaniness of some of the characters. When you add in the music and the plot you cannot stop watching it once you start. Quartet is a British based movie set in a retirement home that is named after a well renowned opera singer named Verdi. The retirement home is only for musicians that want a place that they can be cared for and are still able to teach some of the younger generation the joys of music. The main plot of the movie is that in their younger …show more content…
One of the first quotes that stuck out to me was toward the beginning of the movie, when one of the members of the quartet stated that “old age is not for sissy’s”. This sums up how so many of the people of the older generation feel, the movie shows that you have to be strong to get through the changes that happen as you age. If you are not strong than the changes are going to end up taking their toll on you, causing you to have other issues. Another quote from the movie is “it’s an honor, it is not an honor, it is insanity” directed toward the quartet singing together at their age. The fourth member of the quartet feels that they are too old to still be performing and is focused on her health issues. This is how some of the older population feels once they start having issues that have to be dealt with so that they can continue to live a full life. This shows strongly in some that have mobility issues or are having signs of mental issues due to aging. The third quote that I pulled from the movie was toward the end before the quartet went out on stage to perform at the gala. The two members of the quartet that were once married were having a discussion and it is says back and forth ending with the gentleman “you are handsome, you are beautiful, we are both old, let’s get married.” Admitting that they are both old, but still have feelings for each …show more content…
The first lesson that I feel that movie showed about aging was that no matter how old you are; you can still do things that you enjoy. You should not give up on doing things that you may have done in the past just because you are older, the things you did previously can still be done it just may take a little longer to accomplish them. Another lesson that the movie shows is that there may have been issues in the past with people and when they cross your path again you cannot hold the issues against them because you may need them to help you through an issue you are having currently. Some people actually may change as they age and holding something against them that happened in the past is just going to build up the anger more, which can lead to not only more issue between each other, but also further health issue from the stress. To sum it all up Quartet is a heartfelt movie that shows how a group of retired musicians coexist in a retirement home when not everyone gets along. The message that it portrays is a positive one focused around comedy and drama before everyone decides to come together to keep the retirement home open. If you like independent films than this a must see, it will have you laughing while at the same time cheering on the quartet so that they will perform again to help save their

"Wanted" is basically from a comic book that has limited series written by Mark Miller and J.G Jones, it is about an amoral protagonist (Wesley Gibson) who is discovered as the heir of super assassin. Russian director, Timur Bekmambetov, he is the cream of the crop, he turns this comic into a movie that make the viewers not sit still and make their adrenaline and cortisone levels spike with the actions. Bekmambetov used the similar style of shots and angles with his previous movie, Night watch. It's more to wide angle (long shot), so we can see the terrifying background like one of the scenes in the torture room, where Wes has been beaten up by the butcher. Not even that, there are many special effects that Bekmambetov applies in this movie, like slow-motion with sound effects that certainly provides that "ouch" reaction from audiences.…

Coen Brothers are known as the most famous and popular independent film makers nowadays, they have produced many films labeled as B movies. The Coens’ films, unlike the Hollywood ones, often carry radical skepticism or a liberal outlook, from their very first film Blood Simple to the recent Inside Lewin Davis, always achieve on a low-budget with a small scale of production and their own stock company of actors. Their films are known for the mixing violence, dark humor, film noir, their films are frequently researched within a postmodern perspective. Though postmodernity and postmodernism are two distinctive ideas or theories, one responds more to an aesthetic, and the other is more of a condition of the society, but in many of their films,…

After two escapes from highly guarded prisons, various bank robberies, and several high-speed shooting sprees, John Dillinger met his end in our very own Lincoln Park, bringing great satisfaction to the FBI. The movie Public Enemies focuses on the creation of the modern Federal Bureau of Intelligence and the search for the infamous Chicago gangster as he travels from Indiana to Chicago throughout 1933, trying to dodge his inevitable fate. Most of the United States was deep into the Great Depression at this point, but Dillinger and his men lived rather lavishly throughout this movie. Organized crime was rampant, and criminals knew they needed to have each other’s backs in order to escape the advances of the FBI. As Johnny Depp and Christian…

This movie reflects real life in multiple ways. I think one of the biggest lessons that someone could pull from this movie is that there is a price that everyone must pay. The Warden paid the price for his crimes when he knew he had an innocent man in jail just for him to use Andy for his accounting skills. The Warden ended up committing suicide and I feel that was the ultimate penitence that the Warden had to pay in order for his crimes to be forgiven.…
