Solomon Northup was drugged, duped, and kidnapped into slavery. The moment he wakes up in shackles he was brutally beaten while trying to explain who he is, but it does not result well because his name was changed to Platt on purpose by the perpetrators. As the movie goes on it became clear to Solomon that trying to talk his way out was not going to do anything for him, and that his only true chance of surviving was to comply and face that fact that he was going to be a slave. …show more content…
There were many great people, specifically from the north that supported anti- slavery and protected free blacks and their rights. One man in particular was abolitionist known by the name of Samuel Bass. In the movie Bass questions the slave and plantation owner Brown about the morality of slavery. He also talks about how the conditions the slaves worked under were absolute horrid, being that he was working hand in hand with them as a carpenter he felt it firsthand. It was the first time during the film the viewer felt like someone was really fighting for the slaves and giving them a voice. Brown was growing upset at such talk from Bass, but being that Bass was a free white male nothing could be done to him, and he ultimately was the main reason Solomon was
