Some elements of mise-en-scene that we included were sound, lighting/filters, different camera angles, different editing techniques, as well as an updated wardrobe. For the overall film, we used a grey filter that we thought added a suspenseful connotation. In the opening picture, we used a pan shot which started outside, followed me in through the door, and captured the party scene. In this clip we edited in Arsonist’s Lullaby for non-diegetic sound and also slowed the pacing down making it kind of like a drunk person’s perspective. Interjecting this scene, we cut it to a point of view shot of Breontae and added another non-diegetic sound, the heartbeat to add suspense. We then cut this scene to a close up shot of Breontae’s eyes with the continuing non-diegetic music as well as the heartbeat. After this, we switched views and looked from the inside out by using a medium close up shot of Breontae from his torso up looking in the window although we did not notice him from the inside. We then used a jump cut to Dalton in his car where he was singing to music and slamming on his breaks, creating diegetic sound to be parallel to Penderton being drug by Firebird. Lighting techniques that we used for this scene were our phones to cast a slight glow, and although not planned, the jeeps head lights were perfect that made it look like Dalton had actually been in a wreck. …show more content…
The only part of this project that I was not happy about was that we did not meet the five-minute requirement. Despite this, I think that we had a broad understanding of cinematic techniques and did a rather good job showing this in our four-minute film. Personally speaking, I contributed a fair share to this film. In the preproduction process, I attended all of the meetings and helped develop a story board. Throughout this, I also gave my input about a scene I thought could be better if we added or took something away from it. I stepped out of my comfort zone and offered to play the part of Leonora as well. After the film was produced, I also made the powerpoint for our oral presentation. Throughout all of this, I was rather willing to adjust my schedule to meet everyone else’s schedule. Coming away from this project, I am happy that I now know more about the cinematic techniques of mise-en-scene and how to use them. Overall, I am very happy with the project and how it turned out. At first I was rather hesitant of having a final dependent on a group project. I was worried that like in high school, I would take on the work load while others would get the credit for it. I am happy to say this was not the case and I got along very well with the people in my group and enjoyed getting to make this film with them. In conclusion, I hope you enjoyed watching our video as much as I enjoyed making
