Matt Braunger and Ron Funches star in the twelve-minute-long 2015 film Movie Mind Machine. Directed by Maureen Bharoocha and written by Eric Cunningham. Here lays a film which serves viewers a little bit of satire, culture, and some questionable but funny science.
The plot of a Movie Mind Machine (a machine that will erase one’s memory of a film so that they can re-experience it for the first time) is one so unique it carries the film through. But this is complimented by the short film’s format, borrowing from Modern Family’s successful cut scenes of having the character’s sit down and speak to the camera entwined with Bharoocha’s directing that mimics most Comedy Central series. Although this film was a spoof on the documentary genre, this format along with the comedic overtones does well to produce an overall funny satire that molds into its own uniqueness
Most things were done well, like Matt’s scientific explanation of how the movie mind machine works accompanied with Ron’s comedic timing, it encapsulated the tone for the entire film, showing the perfect chemistry between Ron’s bubbly enthusiasm and Matt’s awkward personality. The short film also does well with its sneaking in of little details in the dialogue, this showcased when Matt referred to the movie Jurassic Park as simply “JP”. But again, Ron’s mini rants filled with punch - lines although meant to be comedic, is an example of too much of a good thing being
