Kung Fury starts off with two guys playing in a 1985 Miami arcade. When they get the game over, they insult the machine causing it to spring to life in anger resulting in blowing the two guy’s heads off. The arcade continues to cause mayhem in the city until one police officer calls one man that can get the job done; Kung Fury, a lone wolf kung Fu cop. After Kung Fury deals with the arcade he returns to base his police chief says he needs to get a new partner, TriceriCop. Kung fury refuses and has a flashback to his old partner dying by a ninja which ultimately gave him his kung Fu powers. Despite its unusual premise, the story is still segmented into the Monomyth’s archetypes of Departure, Initiation, and Return from the Hero’s Journey. Kung Fury departs from his normal life following his partner’s death, is initiated into another world when he gains his new strength and returns to his old life in Miami following Hitler’s defeat. The film focuses on the physical struggles he faces, but there is another subplot detailing Fury’s mental journey. The emotional anguish of losing his beloved partner leaves him a lone wolf on the police force, until Triceracop demonstrated incredible loyalty when he travels back in time and saves him much like the dialogues in the Hero’s Journey. Overall, Kung fury is an exceptional film that all 80’s film buffs should see. Not only does it have insane action, it has a plot related to the Hero’s journey and a soundtrack to die for. The director/ writer, David Sandberg, put a lot of care into this film through little details in the music acting and

King Arthur and Spiderman are two fictitious characters that are both similar, and dissimilar to each other. In an excerpt from Joseph Campbell’s The Hero with a Thousand Faces, he writes about monomyth, which is a twelve step process that is divided into four sections. This represents a continuous cycle that the character in the story must go through in order to complete their journey. King Arthur and Spiderman follow the cycle of the Heroes Journey by events in their lives made parallel to the cycle of the Heroes Journey. King Arthur and Spiderman, although from two different ends of the spectrum, are actually alike, both coming from epic tales of struggles and triumph.…

Sitting at my desk, I stared down at my schoolwork while my mind remained static. Suddenly, I found myself beginning to radiate golden light as my body faded from existence; then before I knew it, I rematerialized out of thin air. This does not happen often, so I was rather confused as I stood atop a cloud, high up in the sky. That is, until I noticed a large, human-like figure appear before me in a holy light. He raised his hands and smiled down at me before bellowing out, “Behold, for it is I; Gabe Newell!”…

Thus, the Fist of Fury is a great example of the nationalism depicted in films and also the anti-Japanese sentiments. It is very common to know that in the past and even today, there is still this negative and superior feeling toward the Japanese. There are various reasons why there are these negative sentiments towards the Japanese (and vice versa) but some can be that it may lie in the struggle for power and influence in Asia between China and Japan. Another reason may be because there are still sentiments from the wars that they have been in and the land that they have fought for. Another reason could be the political struggles within China itself; there is nurture of anti-Japanese hatred in order to bolster China’s legitimacy.…
