People from children to adults criticize many things as they get older. In the world of film production, criticizing movies happens daily. Whether a viewer decides to dislike a particular scene to disliking the entire movie, critical approaches in literature will help us determine what type of criticism is taking place. In the movies such as Halloween, 300, and Frozen, criticism is done through description of scenes and by the judgement of the viewers. In Halloween, the movie is criticized against other scary movies. In 300, characters are criticized because of their actions and behavior. In Frozen, the film is criticized by the notion that characters should not behave unrealistically and songs should sound perfect and clear. While considering all three of these films, literary definitions will determine what type of criticism is taking place in each of these movies.

The movie takes place in medieval times and an audience can easily judge on the fact how men hold hands in the movie or hug each other as a brotherly attitude. This context fall under the category of historical criticism, which defines itself as “seeks to understand a literary work by investigating the social, cultural, and intellectual context that produced it” (Critical Approaches to Lit). This means that given a time period of when a story took place, the behavior of its characters should represent that period. However, 300 also show a reader-response criticism, because “two different readers may derive completely different interpretations of the same literary text” (Critical Approaches to Lit). While honest trailers view this film as having inappropriate actions such as “wearing thongs and holding hands”, someone else may view this appropriately given that they are in medieval time
