Movie Crash Stereotypes

We have all seen or heard those nasty and abusive comments. Some learned these words at a young age and some learned them at school with friends. Despite this, we have learned to treat everyone equal; black, white, male, or female, everyone has the same opportunity to be successful in life because we have learned to not hire or refuse people a job based on different skin color. It wasn't like that before, but now we have learned the right way to treat a person. There were multiple shocking things that were presented in this unit, from some scenes in the Movie Crash, to an article about a Trump supporter being mauled based on a stereotype; they both show wrong ways to treat others. Even though some people have stepped away from racism, others …show more content…
One scene involved the character Jean and a locksmith named Daniel. Not only did Jean mistrust him the minute she saw the locksmith, but she was also being racist; she stereotyped him as a gangbanger (Crash). But, Daniel was just a normal person working for money to make a living. I was shocked at this scene because people have the right to not trust someone, but you should not mistrust someone based on their skin color. I was also surprised when I saw the scene about Officer Ryan making rude comments about a women named Shaniqua (Crash). This dismayed me because you shouldn't think badly about someone because of their name. We need to know someone for who they and not judge them on their looks because we can be totally wrong about who they really …show more content…
A man was pulled out of his car and beat because he was stereotyped as a Trump supporter because of the color of his skin, the age he looked like, and the way he was dressed (Gorner). I think that everyone has the right to believe in what they want, and attacking someone because he/she looks like a stereotype should not be okay. This could affect anyone because we all may believed in different ways, parent in different ways, and look in different ways. But, we should not hate each other just because we do diffrent things. I think it is important that people learn about how a joke can be said in a racist way and hurt someone so they will be aware about it and know when it is happening. We need to make sure that we avoid being racist towards someone based on the way they look because we want to continue making everyone

The film Crash follows eight groups of people and their interactions with each other in the city of Los Angeles. From car crashes to running into people around the city, the characters experience different kinds of crashes over the course of thirty-six hours. When the main characters are first introduced racial stereotypes are thrown every which way; people are afraid to sell a Middle Eastern man a weapon, a woman moves closer to her husband when she sees a pair of African American men, and African American couple apologizes to two white policemen even though they have done nothing wrong. At each instance, almost every person in some form or another committed a pitfall of error in their critical thinking.…

Crash Coogan is the 3rd most monstrous, TRIBEless shell of a person after I have read a book on. This is behind a rapist and a woman who killed her niece, daughter, and large sections of her dominion’s population. The reason that he is barely behind these savages, is the large amounts of horrible actions he does to the decent people of his middle school. Although, at least, Coogan only affected a few with this behavior.…

Some may think that in order to treat different people equally, we must give them all the same treatment. In a quote by Harry Blackmun, former US Supreme Court Justice, he said, “In order to treat some persons equally, we must treat them differently.” What did Blackmun mean by this? I believe that Blackmun was trying to say that different people need to be treated differently. Wouldn’t you treat a baby different from an adult?…

After finishing the movie Crash I was surprised at how much of an emotional response I had to some of the scenes in the movie. I actually felt extremely uncomfortable throughout most of the movie because of the large amounts of violence and racism. Over the course of the movie I found myself falling into several pitfalls of critical thinking like Unwarranted Assumptions, The Either/ Or Outlook, and Double Standards. This movie made me realize how strongly I feel against racial prejudices, and that it is an ongoing issue that can happen to anyone and not just a story you see on the…

The idea of race has been a determining factor for hundreds of years. The idea that one race is better, has sparked numerous issues and debates. This howcever, isn 't limited to the color of the skin but also the status of our health, and sexual preference. Fruitvale Station had an impact on me that confirmed that racism is very alive today. Police still are racial profiling and are more likely to suspect African Americans as a suspect. This film did not anger me as much as it did others, but it did confuse me because as an African American I already know the basics of what and what not to do. For example, Oscar could have walked away from the situation on the train, but because he addressed the situation, things got violent and the police were called. Although both parties were wrong the police went after Oscar because he was black, and they did not focus on the other party involved.…

Social classes and race are some of the main factors of how people treat each other. People in the upper class look at the lower class as poor and violent criminals. People also associate some races as being poor and criminals. John McTiernan 's "Die Hard" is a marvelous example of how Social Class can alter the way one treats another. The main character, John McClane, is a very skilled Policeman who receives an average income.…

Categorizing and identifying threat is part human defense mechanism which allowed humans to survive nature and evolve into the modern man. Identifying threat in nature allowed for better survival and by categorizing animals into dangerous or safe further improves the chances of survival. Unfortunately, this defense mechanism of categorizing and identifying threat in the modern world has shifted from animals to other humans. Describing someone based on their appearance is normal and it facilitates the recognition of that individual, but racism also developed due to natural tendency of humans categorizing subjects. In America, the land in which everyone is created equal, there is a clear evidence that equality between races may just be an ideology…

“Violence as a way of achieving racial injustice is both impractical and immoral. The movie Crash is a multidimensional film set in the Los Angeles metropolitan area and exhibits the various cultures living in one city and how these multiple cultures interact. The tone of the film seems very somber as it views the life of individuals from different social classes and areas and how lives can intersect and impact one another. This paper will evaluate and explain the impact of cultural identity and bias, cultural patters and intercultural communication within this film. Cultural Identity and Bias One of the best examples of cultural identity and race in this film is through the character Jean, played by Sandra Bullock. Her cultural identity is that of an upper class individual living in a nice and safe neighborhood with expensive…

Discrimination is a prevalent issue in society that has decreased over time, but is still occurring. It can be found in more subtle ways than in the past when Whites had their own water fountain to drink out of and Blacks were forced to sit in the back of the bus. The movie, Crash, depicts the prejudice that is present in modern day society. The characters show how people of different races and social classes interact with one another. The stereotypes about the different races are evidently present throughout the film.…
