Survival is based upon ones strength of will as in such a case of Louie Zamperini and Pi
Patel. Surviving isn’t an easy thing to do where a person is given two options to either run away from the situation or fight it. Survival is possible even in the most ominous situation but in order to survive one must be willing to overcome any obstacles. This is shown from both Louie in the film Unbroken and the novel Life of Pi where they’re actions are based off of what they need to do for survival purposes due to their physical, mental and spiritual limits. Being stuck on a small raft makes Pi change his ways drastically when he says "You may be astonished that in such a short period of time I could go from weeping over the muffled killing of a flying fish to gleefully bludgeoning to the death a dorado... Having the presence of Richard Parker is one of the main things that kept Pi mentally stable throughout his journey of survival. Richard Parker kept Pi sane because he was lucky enough to not be alone in his mind. Pi treated Richard Parker like a real human being and he shows this when he says "It was Richard Parker who claimed me down. It is the irony of this story that the one who scared me witless to start with was very some who brought me peace, purpose, I dare say even wholeness(Martel, 204). Pi is able to avoid the signs of giving up by not being depressed while being stuck on the raft with Richard Parker in the middle of nowhere as well as not showing loneliness because in order to stay alive he had to fight his fear of tigers and build a
