Journal Entry The movie “A Time to Kill” is similar to the classic novel “To Kill a Mockingbird” as a white lawyer is defending an innocent African American man, but the predominantly white jury is the only obstacle that both men have of getting freedom and receiving true justice. The ending is where the two break apart as Carl Lee Hailey is pronounced innocent and gets to live, while Tom Tom Robinson ( still at court but believes that Atticus will fail) dies while trying to escape prison. Both the novel and film depicts how the justice system in the south is not fair as the jury cannot see beyond the skin colour of the accused. I believe that the actions that Carl Lee Hailey did was justified as the two rapists Billy Ray Cobb and Pete…

On the day of deployment, three members of the group had disembarked and left to join another while my members were all talking about how easy this objective would be and the snow wouldn’t hold them back. My regiment was placed at the foot of the village, every house was silent, empty building once homes of families, rubbish scattered along the street but a bakery that had all goods left inside. My colleagues ran like little children running towards an ice-cream truck. All hell broke loose as…

The movie “Friday Night Lights” is based on a real life best seller “Friday Night Lights: A Town, A Team, and a Dream”, by author H.G. Bissinger. The movie’s setting takes place at Permian High School in Odessa, Texas in 1988 when the tension between races were still strong in some areas of the south. There is some focus in some areas of the film that has to do with racial tension and the ongoing conflict between the student body and the city as a whole. Even though desegregation had happened by the time the book was written and the film was made, the schools at times were still racially divided. I also felt the movie showed how this football program exploited their black athletes.…

In a society where the citizens believe a group effort throughout daily life is best, chaos and loss of individuality often, and almost always occur. When there is individuality present, people are able to express their singular beliefs and ideas, which leads to success and prosperity, which could not be attained without said individuality. In both The Walking Dead and Harrison Bergeron, the presence of individual dependence is shown in more than one way, this is more superior to group equality, as when you try to make everyone equal, in perspective nobody is equal. The Presence of singular control, or individuality is more superior than the total undeniable equality of everyone.…

In the cinematic world, films and the ideas behind them are becoming more complex and innovative than ever before. In order to keep up with the demand for new, quality films, the masterminds behind the films have to get creative. A method filmmakers use to conjure these movies is the genre mashup. An excellent example of a genre mashup in the film industry is the movie Zombieland. A genre mashup is a number of different objects from various genres being "mashed" into one and in a sense, breaking the boundaries each genre may have once been confined by.…

The core myth of this genre is we all live our lives like zombies, so used to our routine. Shaun of the Dead definitely remythologize the core myth, play with it a whole lot and satisfied every aspect of that point they were trying to make. We are so used to our daily life routines, that a lot of times we don’t noticed or realized what’s going on around us and Shaun of the Dead used the zombies as a metaphor of us. We are like the zombies walking around and going through life and content with our routine. A really great example is the beginning of the film.…

RAMOS, PATRICIA R61 153486 LIT13 Saved by Nonconformity Twilight. The Vampire Diaries. These are two examples that prove the rise of the glossed-over vampire series of the new generation. Vampires are no longer characterized by pointy teeth and bloodlust, but romanticized to the point that they even become love interests. However in Resureksyon, they broke off from these clichés; and amidst the unclear plotline, unnecessary effects, and underwhelming characters, perhaps that is one of its redeeming qualities, making the movie quite interesting.…

I then yanked the machete from my backpack and began to swing, all of a sudden I was down on the ground screaming. I heard gunshots and saw zombies falling one by one, who was this shooting? I got up after all the zombies were “dead”, because they cannot be any deader than they already were, and looked around for the shooter.…
