This 2004 film directed by the popular and influential director, Steven Spielberg is possibly one of my favourite movies of all time. ‘The Terminal’ is a comedy-drama movie that is partially inspired by the 18-year-stay of Mehran Karimi Nasseri in Terminal 1 of Charles de Gaulle International Airport in Paris, France. It tells the story of Viktor Navorski (Tom Hanks), a traveller from Krakozhia. Due to certain circumstances, he became stateless and was unable to set foot in New York City. By order of Frank Dixon (Stanley Tucci) the Director of Customs and Border Protection at the airport, Viktor was only allowed to stay inside the Terminal of JFK airport.

As mentioned, Viktor managed to foster friendships of strong bonds with many people who worked in the airport. I felt that the strongest friendship he had was with the janitor Gupta Rajan (Kumar Pallana). Nearing the end of the movie, Dixon tries to forcefully send Viktor back to his country by threatening to deport Gupta back to India, where Gupta would be arrested for assaulting a corrupt police officer in the past. However, as soon as Gupta hears of this, he immediately runs off and delays Viktor’s airplane from taking off by standing directly in front of the airplane. Gupta was aware that Viktor has yet to finish his mission of coming to New York City and in efforts to help Viktor, he puts his life on the edge and tries to stop the entire plane from taking off. Eventually, the plan worked and Viktor managed to complete his mission before heading back to his homeland. This scene was very emotional and inspiring to me. Especially because being a teenager, many hours of my life are spent in school, and the people that I am always with are my friends. It is very inspiring to see strong friendship bonds between people, where each of them are willing to sacrifice so much and are willing to take on so much risk, in order to help their friends. I find it truly inspiring. I hope that one day, I will also have such a strong friendship bond with one of my friends, where I will have the courage to take on risks and protect
