The Operation

Chaz stretched himself from his california king, moving his palm over the bare side of his bed where his wife once slept. That side of the bed was still made. He glanced over towards it thinking that he would see her, still asleep with her caramel hair laid on the white pillow, but instead he saw the alarm clock that read 7:28 am.

It was not only 3 weeks ago, that his wife Janice lay on a metal slab, bleeding from her stomach all over the place. Chaz’s hands pressed inside his wife trying to stop the bleeding. It wasn’t enough, within 3 minutes she bled out, and Chaz was left with nothing but the soulless body of his dead wife.

Chaz and his late wife Janice were half-breeds, which meant that they were half human, half alien.

The organ is what made them different at their ears, and made them have white hair, and have their skin color turn green. Chaz being a scientist and also a surgeon, thought that he had figured out a way to remove the organ safely and for them to become completely human. He had prepared the operating table with everything that he needed. He was to first remove the organ from Janice, then once she had recovered, he was going to train her to remove the organ from him. They had gone over the procedure a million times, incase there were any mistakes or flaws they had not noticed previously. The operation seemed perfect. The day had come, and it was time for Janice to become 100% human.

Janice went under, and Chaz started to make the incision. A few minor blood spurts here and there while cutting her open, but nothing to be concerned about. Once Chaz had her all opened up he started to move out of the way her liver and kidney. There it was. The organ.

Chaz started to remove it, being careful because he didn’t know anything about the strange form. Just as he was removing it, Janice started bleeding uncontrollably all over the place. Chaz dropped the organ into the metal tray and shoved both of his hands inside his wife to compress the overflowing of blood. Nothing was helping. He pushed down harder and harder as he saw her

Chaz clicked on the link and it led him to youtube clips of monkeys smelling each other's buttocks. “How typical,” Chaz groaned as he saw who the letter was from. Ollie, Chaz’s long time best friend. Ever since Ollie knew Chaz’s wife had passed he’s been trying to cheer him up, only not realizing that he is was just making things worse.

*Beep Boop Beep* Chaz started to dial Ollies number, but there was a knock at the door. Chaz put down the phone and walked over to see who it was, but the door flew open and Ollie marched inside… unannounced, uninvited, and not wiping his shoes before walking in.

“Janice would’ve yelled at you for that,” Chaz remarked while staring at the mud tracks Ollie had made while walking in.

“Awh jeez C, I didn’t mean to upset you. I just came by to see if you got my email. Did you think that it was funny?”

Chaz just stared at his wooden floor, he noticed scratches on it, but he didn’t comment on it. He was too busy thinking of new hypotheses for his experiment to remove his organ without killing himself in the process.

“Hey Chaz?” Ollie’s voice became sympathetic, “Don’t you think you ought to give it a rest? I know you loved

Studying human remains dating back more than 5,000 years ago is typically quite difficult. Although Otzi’s, also known as “iceman”, remains are over 5,000 years old, archaeologists are able to perform an autopsy him due to to the fact he was frozen in ice. When Otzi died he had fallen down the Italian Alps landing him in an advancing glacier. The glacier had preserved his body in ice so well that archaeologists were able to extract DNA, pollen, and tissue samples to find out about his origin, diet, and the natural environment 5,000 years ago. Archaeologists determined that Otzi’s last meal was ibex, red deer, and eikorn.…

The author defines several definitions in progression in this narrative from the brain death, “beating-heart cadaver” and organ donor. The main point for me is, that if we make an early decision to be a donor, the death actually can be transformed to something extraordinary and gives live. “To be able, as a dead person, to make a gift of this magnitude is phenomenal.” (27) Roach appeals everyone to consider saving lives not only no loves ones, but to a stranger.…
