Southside With You
The love story of Michelle and Barack Obama is captured in Southside With You. This movie follows their first date, or lack thereof. In the beginning, it shows how each of them gets ready for their day. Michelle is getting dressed and helping around the house. She assists her dad in getting him to the table, later telling Barack that her father has multiple sclerosis (MS). Michelle insistently tells her mother that she is not interested in dating, and this in fact, is not a date. Barack is sitting in his chair, smoking a cigarette and reading a book, when he gets a call from his grandmother, who tells him that he can't be late. Then, he hops in his beat up yellow car with a hole in the floor, to go pick up Michelle. Barack

I was able to look up facts, and see that this movie followed Michelle and Barack’s first date pretty closely. As expected, some things were changed for movie purposes. But this movie really appreciates the beauty of the true story and almost lets people form their own ideas. A lot of Michelle’s facial expressions lead the audience to wondering what she was really thinking, letting them fall further into the scene. It is by no means an action movie or even a drama, but it was suspenseful in its own sorts. What did Barack have planned yet? The beginning ties into the end, as it starts and ends with Barack sitting in his chair, smoking and reading, but itn the last few minutes, it shows how they both end up thinking about their day together. The movie was very fluid and entertaining, which led the audience to want more. Would Michelle make another snarky comment or let him be for once? When would she finally open up? This movie fits in a romance genre, as it a movie about a first date, and is about two people that America knows extremely …show more content…
This movie is about an hour and a half, but the story stretches along the whole day. The pacing was very well done, as it spends an appropriate amount of time in each scene. None of the scenes drag on too long, and there is just enough going on in each place that there's no sense of getting dragged on too long. There is the scene when they are eating lunch in the park, getting to know each other. There is a pause, where Michelle is watching a young couple walk across the lawn. The scene pans through the park, focusing on the couple, but still showing Michelle and Barack on their non date. Just before they cut to another angle, the editors show Barack glancing up at Michelle with almost a longing look. Though a scene where the editing isn't working great, was the scene where the two are ‘caught’ by a colleague at the movies. They switch between the faces too much, to the point where you notice and are not focusing on what's being said. It is meant to be a suspenseful scene, but it feels awkward to watch as there’s too much cutting back and

Karenya Garrett: Consent by Jason Reitman This short film starts off as this awkward, corny, romantic situation in beginning. But as it started to pick throughout, it got the core of the situation, comically, without being offensive. I thought that Reitman did a good job with how he approached the topic, conveying the issue with a comedic approach, but still not disregarding the issue whatsoever. I enjoyed on how the lawyers took over once the consent form came into play.…

The language style is emotional and motivating, because he uses pathos and ethos to achieve. He uses the pronouns “we” and “our” a lot, which gives the audience a sense of inclusiveness. It gives them the feeling that the speaker, Barack Obama, and the people aren’t so different, and that feeling gives the audience an unconsciously pride, and that makes them start to admire him and take his side. The analysis reveals that Obama uses the elements of Ethos and Pathos in his speech quite frequently. This could be, because he was very interested in motivating and persuading people by appealing to their emotions instead of their intellect, as it is easier to persuade people emotionally, at least in this context.…
