The Pursuit of Happyness Throughout the movie, Chris showed a lot of determination to succeed. The internship at Dean Witter he applied for has very good pay, but he won’t get paid for six months. Chris knows that even after working there for six months, he still has a great chance of not getting the job. This though never stopped him. He was very determined to get the job. Not only was Chris passionate about doing his very best in everything, but he was a great stand out. He went out of his way to talk to Jay Twistle, and to give him his application personally. He is struggling very badly for money. Chris and Glenda spent their entire life savings on the scanners, hoping that all doctors would purchase them. They hoped to make a profit, but it simply just didn’t work out. Doctors told Chris that they were an overpriced, unnecessary luxury, and that most doctors don’t need them. This obviously put Chris under a lot of stress. Glenda, who had been working two shifts a day, for the past four months still couldn’t make enough money to support her family. This caused Chris to have to work even harder to sell the scanners. Day by day, Chris carried around the heavy scanners in hope that he could sell them, because the money from the scanners is what paid for their rent, and daycare for Christopher. Having quite a few dilemmas along the way, involving thieves among the streets of San Francisco, Chris never let anyone get in his way. When people would steal his scanners from him, he would chase them down until he got it back. Chris was so determined to get the scanner back, that he got hit by a car trying to chase the man down. Once he reclaimed it, he realized it wasn’t working correctly. Chris spent night and day working on repairing the scanner so he could sell it. He gave blood to earn an extra $25.00 to buy a new lightbulb for the scanner. Once he fixed it, he was determined to show the doctor how great of a machine it was. Chris was always one step ahead of the game, and was always on his toes. Everything he had done throughout the movie showed how hardworking and determined he was.
