This quote shows that Columbus is someone who used what he knew to understand the world better and see it for what it really is and not make false thoughts about it with what you have learned. Columbus was also someone who used what he knew to become someone smarter and used his mind, heart, and soul in his acts. According to David A. Sprecace, “Columbus discovered the American coast and recorded the voyage in a way that enabled others to repeat the same accomplishment.” This quote proves that Columbus was the kind of person who symbolized bravery, courageousness and adventure. Furthermore, Columbus is someone who had the strength to go on after many faults and he was someone who tried to prove himself even if he did not know…

People learned to lionize him as the hero who discovered the country of America, but what’s never mentioned is that Christopher Columbus is not what Americans are lead to believe. The facts that are missing from history books is that he was a slave owner, a murderer, cruel, and greedy. If he possessed all of these terrible traits, then why is there a day dedicated to him? While many have depicted Columbus as a benevolent explorer who discovered the New World, he wasn't particularly kind, and some think he didn't discover the New World. We now have evidence of many explorers that had reached the Americas before him. Also, he only visited islands near North America. Therefore he never made it to North America. When Columbus landed in 1492, it is estimated there were between 10 and 15 million indigenous people in the area that now constitutes the United States.…

Columbus is often labeled as the person who “discovered” America, but now we know that’s just incorrect. The native american’s already lived there, and the Vikings, with explorers such as Lief Ericson, landed in the Americas long before the Spanish. Columbus did set forth the “age of discovery”, but when you think about it, that's not really much of an achievement on Columbus’ part. People often idolize Columbus and talk about him as if he was the only person who could have landed in America, but that’s a concept that I completely disagree with. I can say with complete certainty that if it wasn’t Columbus who landed in the America’s someone else would have.…

In the article written by the Washington Post, I was shocked when I read that Christopher Columbus murdered, enslaved, and raped indigenous peoples in the Americas, and ruined an entire population. Some people, however, say that Columbus was an important figure in history, and without him, life as we know it could be very different because he discovered America for the Spanish, but not for some other civilizations. Although this may be true, Columbus killed and tortured many indigenous peoples. In textbooks, Columbus is credited for discovering America, and none of these horrific details are mentioned. In fact, Columbus was not the first person to discover America, according to the reading because many other people such as the…

The only piece of history in his favor is the fact that he accidentally discovered America, which could be disproved in the next few years considering all of the extensive research being conducted to find another discoverer of America. His great accomplishment was the destruction of an entire population. How is that heroic? This will in hope eventually bring an end to the celebration of a man who is quite contradictory to what America stands…
