Gender Stereotypes In The Film Mulan

Improved Essays
After watching and analyzing the movie “Mulan” I have concluded that disney creates stereotypes of feminine beauty through the physical traits, of the main female character in the film and showing a misleading representation of females after finding out that she is capable of achieving what a man can do. I will include quotes and paragraphs from different people 's opinions and have my thoughts on it.

This is setback when there was a war in china with the huns invading, and then the chinese emperor begins to assemble an army by giving a conscription notice, demanding a man from each family to join the war. But since Mulan 's elderly father is the only man in the household he has to go to war again, since his father is old he will not be able to help much and he will just die so I can see how Andy has come to this conclusion because “She has to take charge of her fate”(Andy Klein) mulan was determined to join the army instead of this father ,but females cannot join the army so Mulan had to disguise herself to be a man.”Mulan derives from the heroine 's attempts to understand and imitate male characteristics.”(Andy Klein) This is a main point because despite her appearance she is quite strong inside and outside and the name mulan is also commonly known a legendary warrior from the southern and northern dynasties and her name Hua/Fa

Ancient Heroism of Western and Eastern Culture According to Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey, every hero shares the same typical adventure of the archetype. Our society has built up these gender stereotypes stating men are big, strong, superior (to women) and aren’t allowed to show compassion while women are these petite, soft-spoken emotional disasters. The current children of this generation, i feel have it the easiest when it comes to dealing with the gender notion. Everything aside, they are still faced with gender normalities. Only a few decades ago our nation used the term “stay at home mom”,but you would never hear anyone say “stay at home dad” because our culture believed that the men had the jobs and made the money while the women would clean and take care of the children. Many Disney characters had been accommodated into this stereotype in order fit the current culture that we have become…

Many journalists believe that “emotional power can be harnessed” through visual media. One real-life journalist believes that television news has the power of “connect[ing] with the viewer’s heart” through storytelling. This charismatic, heroic image of the journalist is often portrayed in popular culture: a visual media that promotes accuracy and fairness while championing conscientiousness. But popular culture also reveals an unflattering side of visual media that can abuse its power to fabricate, trivialize, dehumanize, and seek profit.…

Women in China didn’t have it easy, and it was even a worse feeling when you disappointed your elders. In Conclusion, Mulan truly hits the main points of what a woman had to do and how to act.
