At a young age a son looks up to his father idolizing everything thing that he does. If its dressing like him, imitating everything that he does or the way he addresses people. He tries to do everything that his father does to make sure he has his attention and his approval. At times in Bicycle Thieves, De Sica shows this relationship many time throughout the movie of Bruno dressing, walking and working like his father. Although it’s not narrating to use that Bruno wants to be like his father, we all know young boys want to grow up and be like there dad and at times you see that in the film but sometimes you see the Bruno forgetting that he is a child and starts acting like an adult. Although, it may not be his fault that he feels that he’s an adult because his father is sometimes treating him as one. In one part of the movie you see Antonio and Bruno setting at a pizza restaurant drinking wine together. When I see this scene, I see a boy that feels that he’s an adult because he’s drinking wine with his father. But, in another part of the movie Bruno is being disciplined for being disrespectful to his father when he asked why he let the old man go get some food. In these two scenes you can see that Bruno doesn’t understand if he should see his father as a friend or as a father. Although, we are so use to young boys wanting to be like their father Igor is onshore if he even has a father too look up to. In La Promesse Pierre doesn’t actually narrate to use that Igor wants to be nothing like his father, we see in the film that the relationship between Igor and is father isn’t on good terms. As experienced, when a young boy’s father has not really been a great father figure to them. They want to be a better person and or father then their father was to them and at times you see that in the film between Igor’s and Rogers relationship but at times you also see that Igor is confused by either doing what’s right or doing what’s wrong. In many parts of the movie Igor is forced, by his father, to keep the death of Amidou away from Assita for his father’s wellbeing. At one point of the film Igor gives some money to Assita so that she can take care of her and her son while Amidou was gone. For his actions Igor was beaten by his father and then given a tattoo. When you watch this scene Pierre wants to show the viewers that Igor is stuck between doing what his father said or doing what’s right. Igor knows that the right thing to do is to tell Assita that Amidou is died. But, because Igor’s father told him not to tell her it’s hard for him to disobey his
