A mousetrap car is a car powered by a mousetrap. It utilizes potential energy, kinetic energy, and mechanical energy. Potential energy is a type of energy an object has because of its position. For example, elastic potential energy of a rubber band depends on how far it is pulled back from rest. The farther it is pulled back, the higher its potential energy. Once the rubber band is let go, the potential energy is then converted into kinetic energy, the energy of movement. The held end of the rubber band snaps to the other end. Mechanical energy is the sum of the potential energy and kinetic energy in an object, associated to its motion and position. An object possessing mechanical energy has the ability to do work. When a force applied to an

Molly Bang Paper When thinking of this assignment, I immediately knew which book I was going to choose. I felt that choosing a favorite book from my childhood could be a fun way to see the differences in how I viewed it then, and how I might view it today. As a child, I was in love with Mercer Mayer’s “Little Critter” books (and still am today). I decided not to go searching for an easy or popular book, rather I wanted to take one I know and love and see if/how Molly Bang’s principles were applied.…

Introduction: The purpose of this lab is to help students gain a better understanding of physical concepts such as work (which occurs when an applied force moves an object.) torque (defined as a twisting force), energy and rotational inertia (an object's resistance to rotation). Experimental Design: My group’s testable question throughout the mousetrap car experiment was: If we add and subtract factors such as material, weight and shape, from the wheels of our car, how will it affect the distance the car is able to travel? The independent variable in our experiment was the material of the wheels of our car.…

What happens when you give a girl a book? Growing up I begged my mom to read me the book ‘If you give a mouse a cookie’ by Laura Numeroff. Ever since then I knew what this book was. I would have my parents or brother read it to me all the time because I hated reading it to myself. I would rather tell you a story or listen to yours but think twice before you give a girl a book and tell her she needs to read the whole thing by Monday.…

However, the balloon is facing backwards so how can it move forwards? The thing that makes the car go forward is the Newton's third law of motion.
