October 10, 2017 Mountains Beyond Mountains Mountains Beyond Mountains: The Quest of Dr. Farmer, A Man Who Could Cure the World , written by Tracy Kidder, illustrates lessons needed in today’s society across the bibliography contexts of Dr. Paul Edward Farmer. In Part One, “Dokte Paul” it’s established that Dr. Farmer is not only devoted to helping the Haitian people but, also well respected and intimate when it comes to his work and life. Civil and political rights should be on the same playing field as the right to have a home, have access to health food, and even the opportunity to have a job. There’s a cycle in many societies between poverty and human health. People can’t become healthier if they can’t afford the proper food and health services so, then they can’t work. There has been studies where people work more efficiently in the workforce when they are healthy. If they can’t work efficiently or even work for that matter they will lose money, creating more poverty and extending the cycle. Health isn’t only a personal necessity it is also an economic necessity to a growing country. Farmer’s work connects to global health connections many times in his life. A stand out example read was when he was stating to Kiddler that he doesn’t like to think of himself from a specific place because we are all apart of the same planet. If you think about humans created these fake lines of territories but, we are all connected by land or ocean. Disease or war isn’t going to stop right when it hits another territory it’s going to continue to spread and cause an academic. Plus we are human beings with similar goals in life and just want the best for ourselves. The key on making sure the global health as a whole is healthy is building up the third world countries. If the third world countries are built up more that will influence the ones around it and create this positive trend in economy and health. There shouldn’t be an economic requirement to be healthy.
