Have you tried the latest craze of Mountain Biking? Here are some tips and techniques to help you master this ever growing sport. Being a relative newbie to the sport, I have put together some handy mountain biking tips and techniques to help you ease into the sport.
Mountain biking is rapidly growing in popularity due to the versatility of mountain bikes which allow you to explore the beautiful off-road areas of your country. It is a great way to de-stress, keep fit, and gives you an overall workout, utilizing not only your legs, but your back, arms and your core muscles which you are constantly using for stabilization.

Some important things you will need to get you started are-
A good helmet, gloves, sunglasses, padded pants, a lightweight riding shirt, water bottle or camelback and sunscreen. If you haven't ridden a bike for a while, I suggest that you go for some small rides around your neighborhood to get used to pedaling and the feel of the bike. Practice sitting and standing while pedaling and make sure that your seat is set at the correct height allowing your legs

Although a bit daunting at first, start off with easier rides on dirt tracks and beaches until you build up your confidence, strength and endurance. As the saying goes "you are fit for what you do". This is true of mountain biking as well. Mountain biking utilizes muscles in a different way to other sports and although you may be fit for say running, the actions used in running differ greatly to mountain bike riding, so therefore to improve your mountain biking skills, the best thing to do is ride. In my opinion, a good mountain biking tip is to start building the muscles for riding by attending Spin classes. I've found that Spinning really helps to build the quads and this makes it easier to climb hills and makes you less tired at the end of a ride. And ultimately, just do it! It gets easier and less daunting with each ride, so swallow your fear
