Mount Alvernia College Event

Improved Essays
Good Morning, Mount Alvernia parents and friends support network, college leadership team and the board of directors.

As you know, this year marks the 60th anniversary of Mount Alvernia College, educating women in the Franciscan tradition. In order to celebrate this incredible milestone, I propose the school holds a ball with a theme that looks back on our journey over the last 60 years. Over 65% of those surveyed opted for a formal ball making it the most viable option. The proposed theme for this ball is a sentimental recollection of the past 60 years. Seeing as this is a reflective event the most feasible target market would be alumni, staff and senior students from the college. The viability of this target market is backed up by the survey results, in which 96.43% voted for alumni, 92.86% voted for staff and 89.29% voted for senior students from the college.

Guest speakers from each decade will be invited to talk about their time at Mount Alvernia and share their stories as to how the school shaped them to become “resilient young women who made meaningful and valuable contributions to the world”(Mount Alvernia, 2016). In addition to this everyone will be able to contribute photos from their schooling years which will be collated into a slide show of photos from throughout the decades showcasing Mount Alvernia’s “inclusive and welcoming community”(Mount Alvernia, 2016). This event will be a formal occasion with supplied canapés, cocktails, mocktails and a feature of the schools FCIP rock

For this assignment, I attended a Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO) chili cook off event followed by a student dance. This event was held at Eastern Randolph high school in Ramseur, North Carolina. This is a small school surrounded primarily by agriculture and Ramseur is a small town of less than 2,000. The community members are mostly alumni of the school and have had generations attend Eastern. Because of this connection, the community is big supporters of school athletic events and other performances.…

Most Improved Chapter Award Entering the school year, the Alpha Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. sought to close the community engagement gap between the Hill and Greater Ithaca. The members of Alpha made it their goal to serve as role models for young children from minority backgrounds living in the more urban areas. The Chapter in collaboration with Southside Community Center, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Black Students United organized a holiday festival to create a space for young boys and girls of color in Ithaca to be able to interact and celebrate the spirit of the holidays with students at Cornell. Meaningful connections were made simply by delighting together in arts and crafts.…

Upon my arrival at Commonwealth Honors Academy a mere twelve days ago I was ignorant to the fact that I was going to learn so much in my time spent here, but now I look back and realize that I have gained so much knowledge and I have acquired more details to add to what I knew before arrival. Overall I have learned that most things in life require constant attention and effort to make them truly work and that anyone you come in contact with and create an influence with will then, in turn, make a larger circle of influence that can quickly become bigger than you can ever be. The universal themes that have had the largest impact on me are the themes of Happiness, Friendship, and Sovereignty of Education. It was Aristotle who defined happiness…

Seeing the positive changes being made, I have always been drawn to do the same. I have come to understand that the members of the society are the elite in scholarly ability, character, and self-commitment, who possess the knowledge and the drive to do what is necessary to better our school’s community as a whole. In writing this letter, I intend to share my understanding of the society, its role in our community, and the plans I look forward to completing as a potential future member.…

Governor’s School Last summer, I attended governor's school west where three hundred and twenty-five bright and open-minded students from all across North Carolina gathered for five and a half weeks in a college campus setting. To me, this was a big milestone in life that changed me for the better. We left our cozy lives of families and friends to start with a clean slate with strangers we’ve never seen in our lives. At first, we thought of it as a sacrifice of our summer to glamorize our college application, but throughout the program we experienced things that exceeded beyond our expectations.…

I am greatly honored to be one of the selected students who are being considered for the Spring induction of National Honor Society. As a current eleventh grade student, I believe that I have exceeded in demonstrating all four qualities of the National Honor Society. With my previous experience in the National Junior Honor Society, I have bestowed the ideals to my community as of the beginning of my middle school career. This has led me to take pride in the community around me and help create a greater society with the foundation that the National Junior Honor Society has introduced to me. The quality of Service is an ideal that I can directly relate to through personal experience, therefore creating significance in my life.…

Choosing a valedictorian is a tradition in American high schools as it creates a sense of pride in the students who earn the title, but is it always a good thing? In “Best in Class” by Margaret Talbot, she creates a message that the issue of valedictorian isn’t necessarily a bad one, but it can be modified to become a more pleasurable tradition as it creates an unhappiness in a certain group of people rather than giving satisfaction to everyone as a whole. Talbot applies an appeal to logos as well as anecdotes of the experiences of other students in order to portray her message to the audience. Although Talbot doesn’t explicitly state her claim, it can be inferred through her use of logos that she does not support the traditional way of choosing…

When I interviewed with Mount Holyoke College, the Associate Director of the Frances Perkins Scholar program, Nichole Reynolds, shared with me, “Attending this school can be a transformative experience if you allow it to be.” The words that she spoke were the guiding force behind the ways in which I approached my junior year. The 2016-2017 school year has been the most transformative year of my academic life thus far. Indeed, I stepped out of my cocoon and forced myself to stretch; no matter how uncomfortable or the amount of fear that I felt, I pushed towards new experiences that helped to construct the person I was becoming. First, after much consideration, I officially declared my self-design major in Black Geographies with the support of my academic advising team.…
