Motivational Mindshift Paper: Enduring When an individual chooses the word “enduring” as the adjective that best correlates with him/her, one can only expect an emotional backstory to follow. A story filled with heartfelt emotions that is bound to resonate with the reader. Thus, I hope you’re prepared for said backstory, because Damon Reynolds is, without a doubt, enduring. My freshman year of high school began like any other year. My classes were slightly more challenging, and I became involved in several extra-curricular activities. However, I didn’t get to enjoy normalcy for very long. A few months after the start of school, my brother, Lance, (a junior at the time) began experiencing some pains in his left knee. That was the problem that I faced for nearly a year. Lance, my dear brother, had to undergo intense chemotherapy, as well as several major surgeries. Meanwhile, I was supposed to carry on with my life as if nothing had changed. In the midst of it all, I began to feel forgotten about. Most people would ask about Lance, checking to see how he was doing, though few people ever asked how I was dealing with it all. It almost seems selfish; how could I possibly think about myself in such a time as this? It was undoubtedly the most difficult period of my life. However, as freshman year came to a close, the end was finally in sight. Lance had endured; despite the seemingly endless rounds of chemo and the tolls it had taken on his body, Lance came out victorious. Not only had Lance beaten cancer, it felt like my entire family had. Just as Lance had endured the treatments and the illnesses, we had endured with him.
