Motivation is the great catalyst which fuels the leaders of today and tomorrow. My ambition has fuelled me to assist my community and my environment for a brighter future. Also, this same determination has led me to take initiative to lead for changes in the local and global community. In addition, my curiosity and the need to learn more about various subjects is constantly stimulated by my drive. From what I’ve read about the previous Loran Scholars online, many of the scholars had some form of motivation which led them to do similar activities I have done. I believe I would make an appropriate nomination for the Loran Scholars sponsorship as I constantly want to learn, regularly lend a hand to my community, and take a lead that other’s don’t. …show more content…
For instance, for well over a year now, I have been helping out the Burns Bog Conservation Society. The Burns Bog Conservation Society strives to educate the public about the importance and conservation of the Burns Bog, a raised peat bog. My role at the society is to assist the educational coordinator with the preparation and execution of events, which are mainly intended to promote the conservation of the bog and sometimes raise money for the society. I have spent the last year helping out the society, because I would like the public, in particular children, to know about the value of the Burns Bog to our community and environment. Furthermore, I am a part of a film studio, LCJ-Fantasy Studio, which films events and promotional videos for non-profit organizations at no cost. I am the executive director of production, so I create and edit scripts and official documents. Additionally, I work on the filming sites as the executive producer. I believe helping these small and local organizations will help spread social reform at faster speeds, so that is the main reason why I joined the studio over a year ago. In synthesis, with my involvement with the Burns Bog Conservation Society, I am helping to conserve the Burns Bog and educate the public about its importance, and with LCJ-Fantasy Studio, I am assisting local organizations and charities reach out to the

I have had a lifelong passion for environmental issues that arose from a childhood spent amongst mountains, canyons, islands, and rivers. The Anacostia River near my home is dubbed “The Forgotten River,” for it has been transformed by neglect. It was integral to my childhood—my family canoed on the river, my crew team practiced on it, and my Eagle Scout project involved rehabilitating one of its wetlands. The river showed me that environmental issues are complex, involving science, social justice, politics, economics, and history. From a young age, I was stunned by my city’s apathy and saw a change that needed to occur.…
