Motivation In The Movie 'Inside Out'

Motivation described in the textbook is, “… the underlying force that explains why people engage in a behavior” (Spector, 2008, p. 200). This is closely related to goal – setting. Reason being because, in order for you to have a goal you need to have the motivation or willingness to achieve that goal you have. Motivation is also tied to a person’s wants, needs, or desires to achieve that goal. For example, if you want a promotion at you job. You need to first evaluate what you want and then you need to show just how badly you want that promotion. Or if you an A on your exam you need to study and put in the work in order to achieve the goal of getting an A. You can have different types of motivation you can have a positive or negative motivation. To me it just depends on the person and how much or badly you …show more content…
Each character or emotion showed that they each have a motivation and they need to fulfill that for Riley. Riley is the main goal for the five emotions or characters and their motivation is to get Riley through the day and help with her emotions. They basically are the moving force that guides Riley. For example, in the movie Joy and Sadness leaves headquarters and they need to get back. While Joy and Sadness are out of headquarters they guide their way back. The only thing on Joy wants badly is that she needs to make Riley happy again and put her life back together before everything crumbles. Another sign on motivation is that once that have collected the orbs. Orbs are the emotions that they display throughout the day if they Riley happy, sad, or angary. They receive an orb for the emotion and it shows the color of the emotion that was shown through Riley. They each place it under these five islands called Family, Friendship, Goofball, Hockey, and Honesty. All five emotions or characters want to place their orbs on one or all of the five islands.
