In North America, we live a life where we need to work in order to survive. Working puts a roof on our head and food on our plates. When you work you earn money which makes it possible for you to get the things you need. People in North America usually work by the hour, so one gets paid for the amount of time they worked. Effort is not taken into consideration as much. As long as you get the work done and right, you get paid. People do not always go that extra mile or so if it does not mean they are going to get paid more. It is all about being able to keep the job and earning money. I think the dominant message in North America regarding rewards for one’s effort is that your effort translates directly to your reward. If you have a hard job and work overtime you would earn more than a person with an easy job who works a normal work week. It is just that simple.
