Motion Dance Concert Review

The Migrating Motion dance concert was extraordinary to watch in terms of analyzing the movements and positions that these dancers utilized throughout their performances. Everything was perfectly choreographed and corresponded with the appropriate song. For example, whenever there was a heartbeat tune, the dancers would motion their bodies to be in perfect sync with the sound. Additionally, with respect to the heart beat tune, the lighting was dim except for the dancers in the middle of the room. The only problem I had with this scene was the lighting. I fully understood the importance of diming the lights except for the dancers in the middle, however it would have been more effective in they included light blue lights surrounding the middle …show more content…
In addition, one of the songs that was used in this performance was called Heavy Water by Deja. The choreographer for this performance was Lucinda (L.Jay) Luevanos. Furthermore, the heavy water part was really interesting because it connected with the theme that a woman can be your savior or perhaps your worst nightmare. I found this analogy to be clever and most importantly, imperative to the dance concert. Using the song as background, the dancers were able to perform these powerful feelings through multiple variations of based on their interpretations of “heavy water”. The mood that I received while watching this dance performance was a combination of peaceful and stressful emotions. The heart beating sound certainly created a feeling of isolationism since the level of quietness was very extreme to the point where you could actually hear your heart beat. At the same time, the tune of the song after the beats creating a peaceful environment filled with tranquility. I interpreted this as two external forces going at each other with brute force. One of these forces represented tranquility and the other represented fear. I had a feeling that was connected with the yin yang balance structure of life. After the concert was over, I finally understood why the show was called Migrating Motion. Using the music, the dancers “migrated” into different sections of the room using varies motions that pertained to how the songs and lighting was structured. Overall, I was amazed at the strength and precision that was required to perform these complex moves for several minutes. Ultimately, this was awe-inspiring to watch and gave me a better understanding of the course material by watching these performs from a close

This week I chose to view a dance film called “Honey” and within this film I experienced an entire collection of musical compositions. Varying from hip-hop to jazz to even ballet. The vast majority of the musical compositions were positioned in such a way that it became a requirement for the story line in order for it to be achieved accurately. However, the vast minorities of the musical compositions were needed to accentuate the mood and setting that the story line was originated for. As you can observe, each musical composition had a vital role to play in this film and was integrated and executed quite perfectly.…

The music was loud and I had to put earplugs in just to make it through the performance. The dancers were clapping their hands, posing, as the 80’s music played. The female performer with the purple and gold dress had a great catwalk. She was one of the best performers in that piece. “Intervertebral” by Cari K. Cunningham was really good.…

One would not expect a dance to disturb and challenge normative views when watching live or on the screen. The dance, Turbulence by Kenneth Hennessey, challenges those views with simple acts. The choreographer, Kenneth Hennessey, challenges these views by including the audience into the dance. Normally, a dance would not include the dance, but this dance includes the audience’s full attention throughout the entirety of the performance. Then the choreographer introduces the form of nakedness to the viewer.…

Another aspect I encountered in the performance were the props and how limited it was. Props that they used include nation’s flags, the trap and steel doors, and the lighting. The traverse stage and the design of the set allowed for a more engaging and intimate performance. Physical wise, the stage was not big which makes it a challenge for the performers to not block anything for the audience. Overall, the traverse stage and the design…

Cry is a sola dance piece choreographed by Alvin Ailey which in his words, "is dedicated to all black women everywhere, especially our mothers." Ailey 's subject matter or work is greatly reinforced by his use of space. Spatial elements such as levels, planes, shapes and paths are used commonly. This dance was meant to be a birthday present for Ailey 's mother Lula who is the subject matter, it 's inspired by the events of his childhood and his mother 's life such as his mother 's rape and their abandonment by Ailey 's father. You can see the colors of the attire worn by the dancers, the sound of music while the dancers dance, and the love of what they do through their faces, but it is fleeting because dance only happens once. You can never see the same performance twice. It will be different every time, whether it is different dancers on stage or a slight change in the music, but that’s why I like dance because though it is never the same, the emotion you will feel while watching this live art being danced in front of you will forever be the same. The audience should consider itself to be a full member of a dance production because they are what keeps dance performances going.…

Two weeks ago, I visited HHC Ybor Main Stage Theatre where the Fall Dance Concert was performed. Usually, I hardly drove to Ybor at night, but I was lucky to be at HCC Ybor on time. The parking was dark and full, so I had to drive several rounds to find the spot. However, I think Fall Dance Concert was worth the drive. This was my first experience about theatre since I came to US, and I really enjoyed it.…

My mood was jubilant that day because I was glad I came to that performance instead of staying home. I would have felt home sick with all that final review so it was pleasant and peaceful having entertainment for such a low cost but great performance. The movements I identified were a lot of the terms I went over in dance class from degage to grand battement, the list goes all over. The name of the performance should be called “The Art of Adventure” and it should be divided into subgenres which focuses on the main theme adventure. Adventure can be dim or bright but they always seem to have a long lasting well produced ending.…
