Motherly Love Teenage pregnancy and teenage parents do not have to be any different from adults. It all depends on how one views and treats them. According to a study done by the CDC in 2014, of every 1,000 babies 24.2 babies are born to a teenage mother. As a society people must be more understanding of teenagers being parents, and know that it does not automatically make them a bad or poor parent. Pregnancy and parenting is a tough job alone, while the teenage brain is still developing think about going through both of those phases as well, and having society be harsher to one as studies show instead of actually supporting and understanding. In an article by Mollborn and Jacobs, a girl name Adriana states, “In particular, she thought her relationship with her grandfather had cooled since she got pregnant.” When in fact, that is when they, the pregnant teen, needs the most support from family because most feel scared, lost, and alone. Another issue with teen pregnancy is the father of the unborn baby might not want the child, so he will leave or abandon and claim the child is not his. In Orange County, California, Elaine Black, tells us that there is a program available at an alternative high school for teen pregnancy. In the program, “Teen fathers are encouraged to stay connected to the child if not the mother” (Black). Teen pregnancy also seems to create a barrier between you and your friends once revealing to them you are bearing a child, even though they are in fact still doing the same activities that led you to getting pregnant.
