Shelly’s mother died when she gave birth to Shelly, so she was raised by her father. Later on Shelly was pregnant herself, but two miscarriages and an infant death had a significant negative effect on her ideas of being a Mother and the world in general. Only one of her children lived to adulthood. With all of Shelly’s personal experiences with the idea of Mothers it was inevitable that she would incorporate those ideas into her novel, and she did through showing that Frankenstein wasn’t his creature’s father, he was his Mother. Frankenstein? It would not have mattered under any circumstances as Victor did not have the capacity to be a Mother nor the books or a teacher to teach him how to be one. Carrie’s maternal grandparents did not set an example for Carrie’s mother as well as Carrie’s grandfather was killed in a gun fight and Carrie’s grandmother abandoned her mother when was a child. Carrie’s mother became involved with a very strict cult-like fundamentalist church group which made Carrie’s mother insane. Carrie’s mother did not have a Mother in her life so she also did not have the capacity to be a mother like Victor. In fact, if the creature and Carrie did not have their incompetent Mothers they probably would not have become
