Dee tells Mama that she wants the two quilts to hang them in her home .Her Mama told her that she had offered them to her when she was younger , and that you rejected them referring to them as “old-fashioned, out of style” quilts .But now she begs her mother to give them to her as they are “priceless!” Mama then decided to tell Dee (wangero) the truth and it was that she had promised her sister (Maggie) to give them to her as wedding gifts .Dee got so mad when she heard this, saying “Maggie can’t appreciate these quilts .She’d probably be backward enough to put them to everyday use!” Dee doesn’t believe that these quilts are for “Everyday Use”. Dee is interested in owning the quilts, and is not interested in remembering the members of her family who actually sewed them .This proves to us that Dee is interested in material thing ,rather than in a true appreciation of her heritage .So, Maggie is the one who deserves the quilts as she knows how to sew ,will add more clothe to the quilts, and will pass it to the next generation of her family, instead of just hanging
