The most significant aspect of Anne’s personal development is Anne’s optimism given her situation. Anne’s determination to get through this hard time is compelling, due to the circumstances of having to hide from the Nazis in such tight quarters. Anne, going through this experience at such a young age and coping with it as she does, shows her maturity and perseverance. In effect, Anne is most positive when she states, “I come to the conclusion that it’s paradise living here compared to the Jews not hiding” (Frank 79). This reveals that instead of Anne complaining all the time about how she can never go outside or how she hates sharing her room with Fritz Pfeffer, she looks on the bright side and actually felt lucky to live in the Annex.
