Most Memorable Service Goal

Improved Essays
My most memorable service opportunity was through Tower Guard, where I worked with the Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities (RCPD) to aid students with disabilities on campus. During my time in Tower Guard, I volunteered in a wide range of activities, including converting textbooks to accessible format, reading exams, and tutoring. Every day I was at the RCPD I interacted with a variety of people and built lifelong friendships. The stories and struggles I heard in discussions with the students and faculty at the RCPD built on my passion for medicine. Regardless of their physical abilities, the people at RCPD were overcoming countless challenges to succeed. They inspire me to continue working towards my goal of becoming a physician

Since my second semester at UT, I have devoted 15 hours a week to volunteering as a Young Life leader. Every week I help run a club meeting for dozens of high school kids, manage a planning meeting with my teammates, and lead a small group for sophomore girls. I spend hours at St. Stephen’s Episcopal School watching games and performances, and simply getting to know these young adults. Through investing this time to build relationships as a mentor and role model, I strove to show these girls that they are significant, noticed and valued. Volunteering as a Young Life leader has taught me invaluable lessons in building relationships, caring for others, and working with a team that will help me to be a more supportive and productive physician…

With HOSA, I went out to different nursing homes conversing with patients and throwing them holiday parties. Furthermore, I participated in many different charitable efforts, such as raising money for Cystic Fibrosis, listening to the stories of patients and learning about their interactions with physicians. Through these experiences, I learned more about the different struggles patients and healthcare providers go through. As I began college, I continued my volunteer work in healthcare, volunteering at Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital. Learning about the impact physicians have on patients, I am inspired to pursue a career in medicine to be able to benefit the lives of others, easing and healing them physically through my actions as a physician and emotionally through my interactions with them as a…

Patient transport has given me the tools to properly interact with patients after their time at the hospital has concluded. Working at cat-scan support showed me how to properly give an IV and be a secretary for the cat-scan team by helping patients in and out of the cat-scan room and providing them with the proper materials to ensure the scans are done properly. Both these volunteer opportunities, exposed me to the culture of a hospital. I was amazed by the positive atmosphere and always looked forward to interacting with patients by making their day better in any way possible. My experiences with volunteering have influenced my desire to work in a hospital as a physician assistant.…

I started out as an intern to the physical therapist aide, which included preparing equipment for patients with special needs or disabilities and perform other duties, such as maintenance of ice/hot packs and the equipment required for treatments. After about a month, the head physical therapist asked me to transition to a physical therapist aide. I was excited about the transition, because it is my passion to assist patients. During each shift, I spent six hours assisting approximately 15 patients in their treatments and answering any questions related to their treatments. As an intern, I initially took the initiative to talk to patients and sympathized with their condition.…
