Zeus Ruler of the gods, god of the sky and rain, and is one of the most famous Greek gods. Zeus is the ruler over gods and man. He controls the sky so it makes sense that his weapon is a lightning bolt. Zeus grew to be a very mighty being, but his beginnings were not quite what you would expect from someone that became what he did. His parents were the titans Cronus and Rheia. His father would eat all of their children immediately after they were born. “His mother helped him get away to Crete where he was raised by Nymphs. Once he was of age he found a goddess named Metis and got her to serve his father a magical draught which made him throw up all of his other children that he did eat. The throne was now open but Zeus had two brothers Poseidon and Hades, so to decide who would take their father’s position they drew lots. Zeus won the heavens Poseidon won the sea and Hades won the underworld. Later in his life he married the queen of the heavens. Her name was Hera and she was also Zeus's sister”.(Atsma, Aaron. J.) She is also goddess of marriage and family, that seems very convenient considering her relationship with Zeus who seems like the main god kind of. Anyway they had three children Ares, Hebe, and Ilithyia. Zeus also had a child his other sister Demeter, and six children with random other women. These children include some famous gods like Apollo and Athena. This is probably where his name “father of the gods” comes from. “Anyway once he became king of the gods an earth-goddess Gaea tried to overthrow him. Zeus defeated them using his lightning bolts, but Gaea created one more monster named Typhoeus that did defeat Zeus. He would change himself into animals and even into some inanimate objects to rape goddesses while he was still married to his sister. He did this many times, and he also just had plain affairs. One of them was the story of “Zeus and Io”. “Zeus was having an affair with Io and when Hera was about to catch them he turned Io into a white heifer. Hera knew what they were doing but played along with it being a normal cow and asked Zeus to keep it as a pet. Zeus said yes to avoid suspicion.
