In the most dangerous game Rainsford cannot quiet his brain he is most likely spooked by the fact that he almost drowned and is staying in a house with a crazed General whom is Zaroff and wants Rainsford to play his “game” and when Rainsford declines Gen. Zaroff, he threatens to have his servant, Ivan, torture him and finally. Rainsford agrees to play the Generals game. And is given a little bit of supplies and is promised not to be hunted until the sun sets the next day. In the story, it says that “suppose his refuses to be hunted?” “Oh” said the general, I give him his opinion, of course not. He need not play the game if he does not wish to. If he does not wish to hunt, I turn him over to Ivan. Ivan once had the honor of serving as official knouter to the great white Czar, and he has his own ideas of sport. Invariably, Mr. Rainsford, invariably they choose to the hunt”. Mr. Rainsford’s reaction to his first day on Shipwreck island would mostly be horrified and suspicious about the generals game and if will survive the next day trying to get as far as he could …show more content…
In the story it says “we should have some good hunting up the Amazon. Great sport, hunting.” “The best sport in the world, agreed, Rainsford.” “For the hunter,” amended Whitney. “Not for the jaguar.” Don’t talk rot Whitney, said Rainsford “you’re a big game hunter, not a philosopher. Who cares what the Jaguar feels? And at the end of the story his attitude toward hunting game is still the same only he cares now of how his prey feels and that the hunting will never bore him. In the story it says nothing of him resecting the animals he is likely to hunt in the near future but I do believe he is likely going to change his view on the animals he hunts because in the beginning he says “who cares what the Jaguar

Why the Setting is Vital to the Plot in “The Most Dangerous Game” In “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, there are two reasons of how setting is vital to the plot. For instance, the island earns the name it is given by suspicious sailors, “Ship Trap Island” because of the fake channel luring ships right onto the sharp rocks. General Zaroff makes a bogus passageway guiding ships to “safety”, when really it is a trap so that he can have new “prey” to hunt. The general explains all this to Rainsford, “‘They indicate a channel. . . where there is none; giant rocks with razor edges crouch like a sea monster with wide open jaws”’(8).…

“The human face is, after all, nothing more nor less, a mask.” -Agatha Christie People only know what you show them about yourself, and when you finally show your true colors, it can come as quite a surprise to most. In the stories The Most Dangerous Game and Porphyria’s Lover both of the main characters experience great twists in another’s seemingly mild personality. The authors use characterization and dialogue(in the case of Porphyria’s lover it’s more an inner monologue) to portray that people can hide their true and sometimes evil ideas or intentions behind their innocent facades. Both Richard Cornell and Robert Browning use characterization to express how the main characters aren't actually as they seem.…

Connell paints him as optimistic when he awakes stranded on this “cursed” island as “He looked about him, almost cheerfully”. Ironically, Rainsford states “Who cares how a jaguar feels” painting a picture of what lies ahead for him on the island. During the course of the story, Rainsford meets another big game hunter and learns that the game on the island is much more vicious than he ever could have imagined. It’s evident from the start that Rainsford is against the idea of hunting man as a sport, as he exclaims “But they are men” and later mocks General Zaroff’s suggestion that they are civilized on the…

Without the setting in “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, there would be no plot in the story. For instance, with an isolated island there is no liberation, and there is no rescue. The island is surrounded by water with no other places located within swimming range. There are sharp, jagged rocks deep within the vast ocean surrounding Rainsford, therefore, swimming anywhere has a high risk of injury. “Ship Trap Island” got it’s name from stories of boats hitting the large rocks and sinking, so no sailor wants to go to the island.…

He didn’t want to take part in the hunt, but he knew he had to do whatever it took to defeat Zaroff because he didn’t want to die such a shameful death, but more importantly, beat Zaroff at his own game. Trying to maintain his civility, Rainsford had to play Zaroff’s game in order to survive. This conflict between man versus man was very tense. Both men wanted to deem themselves as the ultimate hunter and did whatever they could to win the hunt. Coming from two men sitting at the dinner table eating, now, to two men in the jungle trying to kill each other is very dramatic and illustrates the overwhelming conflict between man versus man in “The Most Dangerous Game.”…
