He had never slept in a better, Rainsford decided. The next day, Rainsford awoke at sunset, relieved, that he’d finally gotten sleep since “the most dangerous game.” Recalling his dream from the previous night, Rainsford realized that he could do whatever he wanted to do with the island, and the prisoners trapped inside the chateau. He also remembered the evil grin General Zaroff had on his face. Could hunting animals with reason be that much fun? I’m still a beast at bay, Rainsford thought. As he thought to himself, he walked over the dining room, and said to himself, “What can I do with this place?” Sitting down for minutes, recalling ideas and new topics, he finally came up with a horrific plan. “I now see General Zaroff’s perspective. …show more content…
Breaking the silence that was created once Whitney stepped into the house, he asked, “So, old chap. How did you arrive at the island? What happened on the boat, I was worried sick, and how did you get this chateau-”
“Please, please Whitney. You mustn't talk so much. I fell off our yacht on the way to the Caribbean, and swam to this island. I will not explain any longer. But, tomorrow night, you and I will hunt on this island. The hunter and the quarry. But, for now, let us go to bed, for tomorrow will be a big hunting day. Your room is the first door in the third corridor when you travel up the stairs. Good night.”
On Whitney’s departure to bed, he felt as though his ear drums might rupture from the screams from the basement; these screeches made him frightened and nervous of what his old chap Rainsford has become. That night, Rainsford lay awake in his bed, envisaging what his first real hunting experience would be like; as him being the hunter. Whitney will reveal to me his hunting skills. This will be an epic showdown, as my partner tries to flee me. We will see who wins tomorrow night, because Whitney has no clue that I have changed.
