The Differences Between Literary and Commercial The way Connell’s wrote “The Most Dangerous Game”, he presented it in a way that made it more of a commercial story compared to Wolfe’s “The Child by Tiger” that was more literary fiction. “The Most Dangerous Game” was written in a way that was just meant for entertainment. It excited the senses and dazzled the mind that made the reader want to continue to read. “The Child by Tiger” dove more deep into the world by using fiction to make us understand what the characters felt. The book made the reader question what society has done to cause certain events to unfold. “The Most Dangerous Game” is full of thrill seeking pleasure. Everything about this book was exciting. Even from the beginning when …show more content…
It always had the reader asking question, looking at the small details in the story, and always had the reader wondering why was a certain event so significant to the final ending. To first say a book is a literary book the book has to be relatable to the reader. The reader has to relate and understand the character's difficulties and why the characters do what they do. One of the most relatable characters in “The Child by Tiger” is a black man named Dick. Dick was characterized by being a remarkable man. A person who could do anything and everything. He was a military man who was willing to share anything he has learned to anyone who was willing to listen. Even though he was an African-American, he was generally loved by the family he worked for and the community. Being able to relate to a character in a book is only one of the steps of being considered a work of literary fiction. Another important step is how the book is relatable to society and what questions does it raise. Even though Dick was a great person, he went on a rampage and killed several people and the question that is raised from that is why? Was it because he hated how he was limited to his color or was it because he hated the white people. The reader never gets a clear answer to these questions. Orson Scott Cards Ender’s Game is a science fiction novel set in the distant future, in a time when aliens have already attacked Earth twice and a worldwide birth limit has been imposed to moderate the excessively inflated population. During Ender’s time at the Battle School, Ender, a child, is exposed to many adverse encounters in this dystopian setting. However, it is his internal conflicts involving his principles and the effect of his older brother, Peter, and Colonel Graff, that are the most disturbing and challenge the reader. The author offers many stories of Ender being exposed to inhumane situations that are abnormal outside of the novel that are difficult for the reader to acknowledge. Ender’s desire to remain innocent eventually becomes compromised through the influence of others, and it is this principle that dominates his inner conflicts.…

In Richard Connell's story “The Most Dangerous Game”, the setting is the most essential part of the passage. Meaning that the setting needs to be on an island. In order for general zaroff to do what he does best, he would have to be located on an island. General Zaroff specifically moved to an island for many reasons, one being that the island is the only place where he can kill the most dangerous game. As General Zaroff shows Rainsford how he catches his prey “Rainsford saw a flash of lights…’they indicate a channel’ says General Zaroff.…

Terror, anxiety, and the struggle to survive seem to come alive in “The Most Dangerous Game” an exhilarating short story by Richard Connell. The author makes the story a movie in one’s head through the immaculate use of figurative language and an immense amount of details. He does this so well that you can picture every move of the main character when they are in difficult situations. In this short story, the mood starts off when the protagonist, Rainsford, tries to: “peer through the dank tropical night that was palpable as it presses its thick warm blackness against the yacht”(Connell 60). This very descriptive excerpt from the text really describes and puts an image in one’s head of how it would feel like to be in Rainsford’s point of view.…

Whether it’s being hunted by a mad man, being forced to be equal, or even making sacrifices to get to a better place, life is all how it’s supposed to be. All three stories, “The Most Dangerous Game,” “Harrison Bergeron,” and “Liberty” all have things in common and have their differences. One of the similarities between the three stories would be how all main characters had a problem. In “The Most Dangerous Game” Rainsford’s problem was being hunted by General Zaroff. Suspense is a state of mental uncertainty or excitement, as in awaiting a decision or outcome, usually accompanied by a degree of apprehension or anxiety. Most people crave suspense in literature, movies, or other forms of entertainment. Author Richard Connell uses suspense in the form of foreshadowing in the short story “The Most Dangerous Game” to pull readers in and create a certain interest and involvement in the characters and the story. In the beginning of the story Rainsford and his partner Whitney are on a boat heading in the direction of Rio.…

Those are just like pure teenagers’ love. In addition, there are also touching moments in the story, for instance, the song and flowers Katniss gives to Rue to wish her rest in peace and the bread from District 11 as a thank-you token. It is just these warm moments emerging in this cruel world makes readers more aware of the realness of Reality TV shows and things that happen far away from them. Collins wants to make children really think about the information they received everyday from the media, instead of being so desensitized to the information. As a result, the book should just be the reading level for teenagers as the younger kids might not be able to realize the message behind the story.…
