The baseball diamond has a magical effect on my emotions, which produce so much energy it seems to take over my body and mind. I’ll never forget my first baseball glove and bat. It was spring time in 1983, the snow had finally melted, robins were singing on bare tree branches and the maple trees were blooming. My father took me into town driving our Burgundy 1980 Chevy Malibu Classic. As we parked the car, I asked my dad” what are we doing here”?…

How I Used Public-School While reading the essay “I Just Want to be Average,” by Mike Rose, I noticed how his schooling experience was opposite of mine, there were similarities that lied within our home life, as well as coming from poverty and then making it in the end. During my time in high school, I had my own battles to fight every day, I was homeless, had a hard time finding the courage to make it through class and was stealing the bare necessities to make it week to week. I overcame this with sports, finding my own courage and believing in a school official who didn’t let me down. Eventually, I found my place in high school, despite how unpromising it looked for me in the beginning.…

With my high school requiring a year of physical education, I opted to take the lifetime sport for I was nervous to compete for a spot on the highly competitive teams my school was known for. I was met at the court by 30 other freshmen with a mixed variety of expertise spanning from the first time to ever hold a racquet to a district ranked player. The district ranked player’s father, Mr. Weaver, was a sophomore chemistry teacher who happened to play tennis professionally in his heyday. Mr. Weaver volunteered to teach the freshman tennis team and to train them the basics before they were transferred to “the real…

The crisp breeze rustled my hair as I walked out of my house on the fall September day with my dad drilling instructions into my head. At some point in every person's life, they will have a special experience that will stick with them forever. One of my most memorable moments happened recently at a home volleyball game against Traverse City West. Approaching freshman volleyball season, the upperclassman spoke highly of the importance of overpowering TC West. As a ninth grader, I had the mindset that I would be playing for the freshmen team. I didn't think it really mattered what the outcome of the game would be, since we were only ninth graders.…

As one of the most popular sports in America, bowling is known fondly as an intersectional competitive activity, hobby, and form of entertainment (Mullin, Hardy, & Sutton, 2007, p. 199). As manager of the alley since 2007, Mr. Olson has gotten very acquainted not only with the entertaining side of bowling, but also the nitty-gritty ins and outs of the industry. Mr. Olson also has experience in terms of the national level of the sport, as a listed State President in the Bowling Proprietors’ Association of America, or BPAA.…
