Mosquito Bite Monologue

Improved Essays
Despite the overwhelming elegance, my fragrance hand lotion, though it had a scent of freshly peeled oranges that smelled outstandingly primitive that morning, seemed to be engaging every mosquito and gnat in the beautiful Amicalola Falls. I was turning into a big, itchy, rainbow red mosquito bite. The black bugs kept crawling up my pale skin, trying to get a taste of my precious blood. I kept swinging my arms around furiously, trying to smack them all off.

“Samantha!” I yelled through the thick black cloud of insects. “Get the repellant!” I heard the sound of a can cap popping open.

“Close your eyes!” Samantha ordered.

I flopped down on the dirt and covered my eyes with my hands. I felt a cool mist hit

I don't think I'll ever forget myself as I was just then; my legs sprawled up on the picnic table and back arched to try and conform to the rigid wooden chair that would never be comfortable. My eyes were shut, and my sigh was soft. My chest hurt, but not in a broken-hearted kind of way. It was actually physical, but I tried to ignore it. I felt like crying for no reason, but I didn't.…

Five months had passed since the day I took Bob Ewell’s life. Mr. Tate and Atticus did not tell anyone about my involvement; according to them Jem defended himself and Scout, knocking him onto his own knife before collapsing in the dirt. Because of Scout’s rectangular field of vision and panicked haze, she could not accurately describe what happened and contentedly settled with Mr. Tate’s story. The court case came and went without much difficulty.…

Eyes are the Window to the Soul Darkness flooded the sky, as the night air started to come in, over the dark gloomy campsite. The leaves and branches in the deathly, ancient, gnarly trees whispered tales of past campers. As the Jarvis family settled into their campsite, Noah noticed a mysterious mist spiralling across the fields towards the worn out gates of the cemetery. Dad called out to Noah’s older brother and cousin to help assist in setting up the camping gear. The forest guide had told them before-hand that the only clearing was near the gate of the cemetery if they wanted to camp.…

I am over protective. No, I am not Lancelot outside the palace doors; nor am I the bouncer keeping minors from entering the club. Bugs love me. It is an unrequited love. In the forests of North Carolina where I have spent summers since I was seven years old, it was a constant battle not to be consumed by the never ending mass of insects who rated me five-star cuisine. Maybe it was my fair skin, the light hue that drew them like a lantern in the night. Or maybe it was my fresh mint shampoo that made them think I was a part of the nature they so adored.…

I saw only darkness, save the faint glow of lava rocks in a small hole dug in front of me. I breathe in what should be steaming hot air, but it is dry, yet so hot. Even growing up in Tucson where the summer heat can reach 110 degrees, I’ve never experienced something quite like this. I wished I was playing out in that summer heat, this felt like I was being cooked in an oven. I breathe in again, more dry air.…

The leaves crunched under my black converse as I walked through the nature trail. It was a crisp fall day, too cold for short sleeves, but too warm for a heavy coat. It was Sunday afternoon, and I was trying to escape my duties at home by telling my mom I needed to get outside on such a beautiful day. I sat down on the bridge and looked down at the shining river. The water was twenty feet below me and looked about fifteen to twenty feet deep.…

Despite the beauty of nature and the sunlight shining on my body, my -oh-my-god-i-need-to-buy-that-now- scent of my perfume had told the bugs of the trail a war request, and they accepted the request. I kept swinging my arms at the bugs trying to go for my face, but they got to my legs first. Then they started to crawl up my legs, almost to my pants. I kneel down and try to swing with all of my force at the mob of bugs and gnats. Luckily i got most of the bugs, but then the mosquitoes surprised attacked me and started sucking my blood from my arms.…

My most valuable possession was my house. It wasn’t anything fancy or exquisite, but it was there that I had spent the precious moments, however few, with my beloved dad. I remember that we would spend hours playing, running around the arched, brightly lit corridors. On either side, I recall the large mahogany doors which would fluidly open to reveal ancient, chestnut-brown rooms with antique, twin bed frames which were confined within. I will never forget the uncanny gargoyles that were suspended onto the wall behind, the very same monsters who would assault my sleep and curse me with countless numbers of sleepless nights.…
