Mose Wright, Emmett’s uncle, was the first to testify. He identified Bryant and Millam as the ones coming to his house. This upset the huge crowd in the court room. Defense tried to dissuade his testimony and claim he would not have known it was them since everything was dark when they came. However, Sheriff Smith testified the two men had confessed to kidnapping to him. The trial continued with questions about the identity of Emmett, if it was really him in the river. His mother testified that she had been able to identify him as Emmett. When Willie Reed, a Negro kid Hiram’s age, testified that he saw a blue Ford pick up with white men and Emmett in it, Grampa began sweating next to Hiram. Our clients related that Grey Hoffman had significant heart issues before moving into the house that required two prior surgeries. Apparently, Ms. Nathan-Nenn has a challenging relationship with her ex-husband, who is also Grey’s father, and had expressed to the insureds several times that she was concerned that she would lose her two weekends a month visitation with Grey if it appeared that she was not providing him with proper care. The insureds felt that as a result, Ms. Nathan-Nenn may be looking to place blame on them for Grey’s alleged continued difficulties. Finally, it is important to note that the parties renewed the lease on June 4, 2014, subsequent to the plaintiffs’ initial complaints relating to the premises and surrendered possession of the premise on October 3, 2014.…

In Keith Beauchamp’s documentary, “The Untold Story of Emmett Till,” the dark past of a Mississippi town is brought back to the light of the public. The film discusses the seemingly harmless event which ultimately lead to fourteen year old Emmett Till’s brutal torture and death through the eyes of those who were close to the boy and his family. These events which are relieved by family members and eyewitness’s of that day, along with those to follow, are told to lead up to the unimaginably heartbreaking ruling of non-guilty for this young man’s two killers, J.W. Milam and Roy Bryant. The filmmaker formats the piece as such, as well as uses the emotional testimonies of family members and friends, to support the claim that these men were guilty in the first degree of kidnapping, torture, and murder. It can be concluded that Keith Beauchamp is successful in arguing his claim because of the excellent use of pathos in the testimonies of the family, logos in the claims…

Gwendolyn Brooks tackles the Emmett Till case in a way that has never been done before. Brooks gives an artistic narrative that shows what happened in the Bryant’s household after the trial.
