The story of the villagers is heart-warming and will make you feel grateful for so many things that we often take for granted in our day to day lives. Mortenson thinks of building a school in the village to thank the villagers for their kindness and hospitality. At that point, Mortenson had no idea how difficult this would turn out to be. Raising funds, getting permission, facing death threats for extremist groups. For a long time, things didn't go in his favour and Mortenson found himself slipping into depression.
