Morrow County Reflection

Morrow County, the county I have lived in for the past 15 years is ranked 10th out of 34. Its rank surprised me, I thought it would be lower on the scale. My county is ranked 8th out of 34 in length of life which isn’t too surprising. Quality of life wise, it is 17th which did surprise me as I thought it would be worse. In the health factors category, it is 22nd. Morrow counties health behaviors puts it at 27. I noticed our smoking percentage is 23 which is high compared to Oregon’s average by more than 7%. The inactivity in my town is bad, ranking at 22%.
A fact that stood out to me are the number of alcohol- impaired driving deaths which are relatively high. Another fact that really stood out to me was there being 249 sexually transmitted infections and 43

Morrow Counties graduation rate is 79% while Oregon’s best is 69%. My county is doing well in that aspect, but if one looks a little further into the college sector, percentages drop significantly. From as low as 34% to a 66.7%, or the highest being 71%. The unemployment rate did surprise me because in my opinion there is lots of work around my town. The work is mostly factory work and working out in a farm so hands on work. A factor I took into account when analyzing this, is perhaps some people declared unemployment while they only worked part- time because a lot of the work is seasonal meaning it runs from February to May then a break and back to being employed during late August to early November. The last type of factors that went into this analysis was the physical environment. The air pollution is relatively high but as I did mention before there are lots of factories that lead to production of jobs but that also impacts the quality of air in a negative way. I clicked on the graph under the trend option, to no surprise the air pollution has been rising due to more factories being built and expansions of factories

Critique of the Rhea Medical Center Community Health Needs Assessment Rhea Medical Center conducted their most recent Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) in 2016. The CHNA data applies to people living in the geographic areas of Dayton, Graysville, Evensville, Spring City and Grandview, all communities of Rhea County, Tennessee (Rhea Medical Center, 2016, p. 11). One thing that surprised me in the CHNA was of the top 15 causes of death in the United States, nine occurred at "Higher than expected" rates in Rhea County (Rhea Medical Center, 2016, p. 30). This is disturbing as I have lived in Rhea County most of my life and have always considered it a safe and healthy place to live. Also surprising, were the mortality and premature death rates, which according to the CHNA are also both higher in Rhea County than the state and national averages.…

I agree, that one of the main factors of the two counties low ranks were due to large rural areas. They lack the accessibility of transportation to the nearest health care entity, jobs and food. Consequently, in an emergency the EMT may need to travel 25 miles before preforming life saving techniques. The lack of transportation hinders families in seeking employment, which increase their depression, drugs and alcohol factors. The government insurance (Medicaid) have distances restrictions and recipients are not able to get their appointments.…

I have been involved in the Hardin County Fair since the age of 2 when I started entering projects through Goo Crew. Since then I have entered a wide variety of projects in 4-H, FFA, Girl Scouts and open class. I have entered poster boards, jewelry, scrapbooks, wood works, and cookies. This variety of projects has allowed me to learn how to display them in a booth so they can be easily seen and look presentable from most angles. I have also spent a good deal of time watching my friends work with their animals.…
