Summary of the story
At the start of the movie I saw an old fella dancing to his favourite song in what seemed to be a night club and his name was Morrie. Morrie is a professor of sociology at Brandeis University and was Mitch’s teacher. Morrie also explains that he left “by default” due to the fact that he lost control of his body to ALS. Soon after morrie is on TV when the news reporters clarifies that he is dying and as the they continue talking about the terrible incident I am brought to a new face, Mitch albom whose dream is to be a musician but gets side-tracked by his current job at the Detroit newspaper which leaves him little time with Janine or his professor. It changed when morrie’s encouragement made Mitch realise what he had missed out, each time he goes to morrie for more it becomes clearer that he needs to change. Mitch finds it hard to show his emotions but that comes to a stop when his college professor is dying. So in addition he value things in life but for the wrong reasons like he seemed to value his job and money more than the people he loved.
Describe the relationship between Mitch and Morrie
The relationship between Mitch Albom and Morrie Schwartz his college professor is irreplaceable; when Mitch was young he made a promise to him that he would reconnect. But ironically, as he grew up he didn’t keep his word. Morrie is a very compassionate and lovable character whereas Mitch has his life wrapped in a bubble and has an “independent success-driven life” morrie demonstrates how Mitch can reconnect with himself and others in his life and shows him that he should appreciate life how it is.
