The purpose of this paper is to determine the similarities and difference of cultural dimensions between Morocco and Ethiopia. Information from various sources will be utilized along with information gathered from the Hofstede Centre. The information from the Hofstede 's cultural dimensions theory will be the main supporting information that is used to complete the comparison.
The countries selected for comparison, Morocco and Ethiopia, are both located on the continent of Africa. Morocco is in the northern region of the continent while Ethiopia is in the eastern region along the coast. The population in Ethiopia which is 90 million is almost triple the population in Morocco which is 33.3 million. The two countries are difference in terms of Hofstede’s cultural dimensions in the areas of uncertainty avoidance, masculinity-femininity and long-term orientation.
Morocco and Ethiopia are different in the dimension of uncertainty avoidance but not by a substantial amount. This dimension rest on the fact of the need to control or know the future or to have a carefree attitude and let the future unfold as it is supposed to. Morocco scored a sixty-eight, which suggest a high preference for avoiding uncertainty. Societies that score high do not really like the unfamiliar and are not generally risk-takers. This signifies a group that is really about having rules in place even though they may not abide by them all. However, Ethiopia was more in the middle on this dimension scoring an intermediate of fifty-five. This would mean that Ethiopia would exhibit traits of high and low avoidance.
