Moroccan Heritage Research Paper

Does your heritage make an impact on how you live today? To be honest I am not really affected by my Moroccan heritage, but I would like to start some more traditions with my family. Some things I would like to start doing are eating more Moroccan foods, learning about their religion, and learning about how they live.

Many Moroccans eat different foods than Americans. For example they like to cook different than we do, this is called a cuisine. Cuisine is a traditional Moroccan style of cooking. Cuisine would be a type of dish I would like to try. Another thing that Moroccans like to eat/drink is Moroccan mint tea. Moroccan mint tea is very simple to make and delicious. The ingredients for Moroccan mint tea are green tea, a couple tablespoons sugar, and fresh mint. In Morocco, Moroccan mint tea is served 24/7. It is usually served when a guest comes over to your home, this shows a sign of friendship. When I went to Morocco I went to my cousins house my parents and I got Moroccan mint tea. One food I would like to eat more is Couscous. Couscous is kind of like rice but in the shape of circles. Couscous can have many different toppings such as vegetables, fruit, and sometimes meat.

The most popular religion in Morocco is Muslim. My family is not really affected by Moroccan religion but we do believe some things that they do. For example we don’t eat pork. Many Muslims do not eat pork because they think the meat is not clean. Another reason why Moroccan religion doesn’t affect me is because we don’t go to Mosque. Mosque is a Muslim place of worship. There are very many Mosques in Morocco. One other thing that Moroccans do is pray five times a day, that is called the call of worship. There are speakers on the Mosque so everyone can hear and do the prayer

Food has had many roles throughout our history; however, it seems to have outgrown its primary role in just providing us the nutrients we need to maintain us alive. It now has grown into a field of study in which we can explore the different tastes and cultural values apart from our own. This is a useful guidance in helping everyone outside of the culture understand and appreciate another culture's beliefs and ideals. First, the Berbers migrated to Morocco around the 3rd and 2nd millennia BCE. They were thought to have originated in Asia. Later, the Greeks and Phoenicians devised trading ports on the cost of Morocco, until the Romans conquered. While the Romans were in power, many of the Berbers rebelled and the reaction of the Romans was to cut out their tongues and ship them off to the Canary Islands, where they were later found by the Spanish.
