For the purpose of this discussion topic paper, I reviewed the article Rituximab as a treatment for severe atopic eczema: failure to improve in three consecutive patients. The article discussed the study of three consecutive patients with severe atopic eczema (red, itchy skin) that they treated with rituximab infusions, but the infusions failed to improve the condition. The article also mentions three other case studies that varied in results. Considering the small sample used in the main study of this article and the contradicting findings of other sited studies, I do not find that the main study, alone, is an adequate one to draw any type of final conclusion about whether or not rituximab is a successful method of treatment for severe atopic eczema.…

Through watching the documentary Fire in the Blood, we are fully submerged into the senseless struggle of Third World nations to obtain low-cost antiretroviral therapy (ARV) for the treatment of HIV/AIDS. The antagonists of the film are pharmaceutical firms (collectively referred to as Big Pharma) who, through the utilization of false advertising, patents, and international treaties, barr citizens of developing nations from receiving the quality treatment they rightly deserve. As someone who was severely disturbed by the excessive self-interest of Big Pharma, I struggle to create an acceptable explanation as to why it should be pardoned for its direct involvement in the unnecessary deaths of millions. However, as a budding anthropologist, I believe that it is my responsibility to play devil’s advocate and explore, as objectively as I can, the reasoning which supports the actions of Big Pharma through employing the anthropological concept of the political body. To successfully fulfill the purpose of this short paper, I plan on first giving a brief overview of the…

Five years ago, I was strolling down the moisturizers’ aisle at CVS when I spotted Aveeno Daily Moisturizer. The simple yet classy bottle captured by attention; next to all the flashy colored moisturizing bottles Aveeno’s stood out. The soft beige bottle and the earthy green colored cap gave out a relieving and stress feel vibe. When I took the bottle for more details about its ingredients, I saw that it was an all natural lotion, infused with colloidal oatmeal and other active naturals and the best part was it was “clinically” proven to relieve dry skin. The product has unique features; a light texture formula, a fresh feel yet not strongly scented, and most importantly, it is quickly absorbed by the skin, leaving it smooth, hydrated, and…

HOW TO AVOID PIMPLES A Pimple is a kind of spot or a zit which is a result of excessive oil getting trapped in the pores of the skin. Pimples are the worst nightmare a girl can suffer during her teenage. The growth of pimples has now become common in boys as well.
