This is where he he started to like actors. Some of the actors he mentioned he liked were Gary Cooper, Spencer Tracy and, Sidney Poitier. When Freeman was in junior high, he pulled a chair out from a girl he had a crush on, and he had to participate in the schools drama competition as a punishment. His performance surprised him and the administrators. Freeman joined the air force after high school and quickly realized it was not for him and that is when he started his acting career. Then first credited appearance was in 1971’s who says I can't ride a rainbow. During the 1970’s, Freeman continued to get better on the stage. He won a few things like the Drama desk and Clarence Derwent awards and also receiving a Tony award nomination for his performance in the Mighty Gents in 1978. Then in 1980, Freeman had won two obie awards for his acting of shakespearean anti hero Coriolanus at the New York Shakespeare Festival. He won another obie in 1984 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music production for his performance as the messenger. Also in 1985 he won the Drama Logue Award for the same role. Just a two years later in 1987, Morgan Freeman created the role of Hoke Coleburn in Alfred Uhry’s Pulitzer Prize winning play Driving Miss Daisey. This got him his fourth Obie Award. In 1990, Freeman was back at the New York Shakespeare Festival’s The Taming of the Shrew starring as Petruchio. When Freeman returned to the broadway stage in 2008, Freeman starred with Frances Mcdormand and Peter Gallagher in
