More Than 4 Analysis

The topic of my spoken word poem was More Than 4. This topic inspired me in many ways. More Than 4 means more than 4 percent for childhood cancer research. The National Cancer Institute only gives 3.7% of the funding and research to childhood cancer. The kids that I have met and have gotten close to, have inspired me to write this poem. The strength those kids have, the way they smile and laugh through the pain inspired me. Children are our future. The challenge that I had to face while writing this poem was writing the poem itself. I have been through many things with kids that I am close to who have cancer. My neighbor was diagnosed when she was 4 with Ewings Sarcoma, she’s now 3 years cancer free. I’ve had two friends my age diagnosed with cancer. One girl was named Kylie, she’s no longer suffering with cancer. The quote in my poem was said by Kylie, “Cancer should die and not the kids.” When I performed my poem, I performed it live in front of my class instead of taking a video and submitting it to my teacher. To perform my poem live in front of my class hopefully made some of the students think about how lucky they are to be living a healthy life and that complaining about having to write a one page …show more content…
If you are reading the poem with no emotion or facial expression, then when people are reading their poem, it doesn’t sound interesting. The poem sounds plain, boring, and something you just don’t want to listen to. Also, I learned that even the shortest amount of facts you can put in a poem, can change a person’s point of view of things. It can make people respect things more, appreciate things more, and believe in things more. Kids believe they will survive this beast inside them called cancer. They will be strong, and they will fight. But, these kids deserve More Than

I agree that poetry can be hard to read as well as to interpret sometimes. You also make a great point when you stated that the characters from the Death of Ivan IIyich are more relatable to its readers in some shape or form. For Example, Ivan character was an overachiever who was always pursuing a better life and future for himself and his family. Most of us are pursuing our degrees to have a better future so in a way we relate to Ivan. I really enjoyed reading your discussion!…

It is official, I have taken my first poetry class, in a way I wanted to explore my poetic side while also learning new techniques and elements that I can take to the future classes I will teach. Many times, I have heard that poetry is a joke or that it is dead thanks to music, but I strongly disagree. Poem’s are meant to be this lovely little pieces that are fresh, healthy, and unique. This is something I have learned as this semester progressed. Some of my poem have had some blandness due to being cliché or lack of language.…

In “Brother, Victim, Criminal” the essence of life is being dramatized as it starts off with stating that “the world has ended” (Owen 1). The speaker is an unidentified character besides us knowing he’s the brother of Joel by the line Joel, “my brother is no more.” (Owen 2). In the poem, the narrator mourns the loss of his brother, Joel. There isn’t much action besides the change in the character as he takes in his brothers passing.…

Today I presented my untitled poem to the class. My poem was about my life here in Pensacola and some of my opinions on staying here and leaving. I really didn’t have any major inspiration to the poem besides the fact that I have been watching a ton of college move in videos on youtube. I always say things like “I hate Pensacola” or “there’s nothing to do here” (which I still agree with) and “I can’t wait until I leave”, but honestly, I can wait. I can wait forever.…

Hello, I chose the poem “Spelling Father” by Marshall Davis-Jones. The reason that I chose this poem and what spoke to me was the fact that this was a young man that was fatherless. When he was explaining everything that mothers do for their children, it just spoke to me on how so many children grow up without having their fathers in their lives. I would describe the writer’s writing style as one who uses many metaphors to organize his poem verse by verse. There were many words used in the poem like cleaned, hugged, and kisses, all to describe his mother doing the things he wished his father did for him.…

A fragile soul walks into his first grade class, fearful of the outside world. This is where he says goodbye, goodbye to his parents, goodbye to his old life, and starts anew. This is where the new world opens up new possibilities, new experiences, and new learning. There is no longer a necessity for childlike wonder; this is supposed to be the place where every child goes to create a name for themselves. The name I was trying to create for myself was Tyler Vold, a unique individual who desired to write with passion and attack the intricacies of the English language head on.…

For many years, I have found myself turning to poetry as a relief from existing during times where being alive just didn’t help the choices I’d make. It became a writing style; a lifestyle. For 15 years I have taught myself the fundamentals of what there is to know when it comes to poetry and the type of rhythms there are. The fascination that I found through different techniques inspired me to create my own work lengthy enough to perform publicly.…

As I look through all my papers in my first-year experience Chicago: write on class I have noticed a theme of injustice and uncertainty in all my papers, that I have written this whole semester. What I found in my work that surprised me were the metaphor and quotes I use to connect to my experiment. For example, my “Field Note” poem where I try to connect the fog as a London horror movie type of fog and then using a Sherlock Holmes quote who is a fictional character who lives in London solving mysteries. I never really did that in my creative writing before especially in poetry. Another writing experiment I notice again during this semester is an interesting thing about myself in writing.…

Jem’s Realization of the True World The outcome of the court case caused Jem to question the goodness of humanity when he assumed that people would always make the right choice which in turn caused Jem to mature and understand the world for how it truly is. Originally, Jem believes that a person will always make the right choice based on fact and logic instead of on racist traditions to determine whether a human being lives or dies. Jem is explaining to Reverend Sikes why Atticus was sure to win the court case when he says, “Don’t see how any jury in this world could convict on what we heard-”(Lee 279)…

“What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” is a commonly used quote. I can honestly say I didn’t hear it from an upbeat pop song at first. But from someone more important in life, my father.
