The late 1940’s was the peak for cigarette companies, with the all new and improved menthol soothing cigarette being brought to the market and the complete cluelessness of its harmful effects to the body. The issue was getting those who had never smoked hooked on it. Setting out to solve their problem Camel aired a commercial that completely caught viewers attention titled “More Doctors Prefer Camel’s Than Any Other Cigarette” that aired in 1949. The commercial would begin in black and white and depicts handsome doctors smoking while a sophisticated deep voice narrates through the moving images and informs the audience that doctors of every field and every state responded in a national survey that they preferred camel’s over any other cigarette brand and that they would recommend their …show more content…
The voice of the narrator came from a very sophisticated voice. A voice expected to be from an educated individual. The narrator articulates his words well and speaks in an understandable but elevated diction to the average man. This appeals to the egotistical side of people, mainly men. In this era men wanted to be the alpha role of their household and the provider. Most men strived to be in respectful field and by listening to something as simple as a classy voice can trigger the emotion of wanting and belief that if they smoked Camel’s they could obtain these desires.

Desires is a leading emotion in what humans lean towards doing. Their is a major sex appeal in Camel’s ad by having both attractive men and women in it. For a woman, they see a doctor who is mainly known for his education, high income, and now his handsomeness. This leads to the thought that if they aim for men who smoke Camel’s they may be just as successful as the man in the commercial. For a man, they see a gorgeous woman with voluptuous features and a classy appearance and are led into thinking that a woman who smokes Camel’s will be just like
