Every year since I was in second grade I have attended a Moravian camp, up on top of a mountain, for a week every summer. All of my church friends and some of my school friends also attended the camp and there were three summers when I attended the summer camp twice. I have had various experiences in the last two years, but the one I feel is the most significant is the time I spent volunteering for the Detroit Mission Trip. This opportunity presented itself in June of 2014 through my church, Metro South Church. I spent one week, Monday through Friday, each day-all day, commuting from my home in Brownstown to the inner city of Detroit. Each day of this mission trip consisted of various volunteer jobs. I was one of approximately 100 people that engaged in the process of making life better for others.…

Camp Bird for Lutherans is, and has been my second home since I was twelve years old. In fifth grade, one of my mom’s friends, Mrs. Jenny Krauklis, invited me to attend Camp Bird. That summer my family drove me four hours north, and left me at camp - my only friend being Mrs. Krauklis. I spent the week making new friends, painting arts and crafts, eating way too much of the acclaimed camp food, and strengthening my faith in Christ. My parents picked me up at the end of the week, and I spent the next year raving about camp.…

Going to church was a very eye opening experience, especially since it was nothing was I expected it to be. I expected to have to put on a nice dress and sing some songs from a book and then listen to a man talk for an hour about nothing that I knew. But that wasn’t the case. I was able to sing and dance along with the music, and could actually relate to what the pastor was saying to us. I am very glad that I chose to go to a new church, because it was not only a good topic for a paper, but I was also an experience that could possibly change the rest of my…
