The environment one lives in, whether it is the setting or the people around us, is influential and can change one's life for the good or the bad. Specifically, Gus Van Sant, the director of the movie, Good Will Hunting urges surrounding yourself with well educated, advanced people in contrast to low life people who hold you back because doing so will enable you to express yourself, step out of your comfort zone and voice emotions that allow you to have a fulfilling life.

Firstly, by surrounding himself with lowlifes, Will is held back; however, when he spends time with better people, he starts becoming an actualized human being and fulfills life, which reinforces the positive of surrounding yourself with the right kind of people. While

Will finally starts to develop sentiments for another being. Additionally, Skylar makes the first move at several times instead of Will. She is the one who goes up to him at the bar and gives him her number, she is the one proposing to go out to meet his family and friends, to basically accomplish things with him. Briefly, Will has trouble expressing himself. Subsequently, Skylar takes the initiative and invites him to go to California with her, when this subject comes up, Will finally opens up and starts saying unpleasant events that he has experienced, “I got cigarettes put out on me when I was a little kid.” (Good Will Hunting). He tells her the truth about himself but his truth is dark and uncomfortable. Alternatively, Will screams, “Don't bullshit me!” to Skylar as she says “I love you.” (Good Will Hunting). Over the years, Will learns not to trust anyone or love anyone hence, his concealment. It is so hard on Will to hear someone expressing sentiments towards him and taking interest in his past, present and future. (comma instead?) Specifically, for the reason that this person might hurt him if he lets them in. Moreover, when he calls up Skylar to tell her ‘good bye’ she says, “I love you.” (is there something misssing?) Will replies; “take care.” (Good Will Hunting). Although Will would like to say it back, it is extremely difficult for him to …show more content…

He neglects the feeling of others as well as his. For example, Will continues the subject about what is the meaning of Sean’s painting even after seeing how quickly Sean tries to change the topic seeing that it makes him uncomfortable. Alas, Will pushes the discomfort in Sean. Furthermore, in one of the final sessions, Sean and Will shares a laugh together which indicates Will developing into a more emotional men. Lastly, Will gets the chance to burst in tears while being with Sean and gets his inner problems out, as Sean repeats; “It’s not your fault” (Good Will Hunting). Will starts to get very emotional and cries while reaching Sean for a hug. To resume, this scene shows Will stepping out of his comfort zone with the help of Sean, a positive influence. Hence, Van Sant endorses people to surround themselves with successful achievers in order to live a life with meaning and

Thompson published his book “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.” Not only was Thompson the author of this book, it was actually based on a real-life experience he took with his attorney, Oscar Zeta Acosta.
