When I was eight-years old, my aunt became pregnant. She was a major chain-smoker and smoked throughout her entire pregnancy. All of the doctors warned her of the major risks that came with smoking during pregnancy, but her excuse was that her mother smoked during her pregnancy and she turned out just fine. My whole family was strongly against it, but my aunt had always had such a laidback personality; at times we thought it was too laidback. My aunt went into labor at six months, which was way too early for the baby and he wasn’t able to survive on his own yet. His lungs were not fully developed, so when he came out he was not breathing.
