Moral Issues In Case Study 5: My Personal Ethical Dilemmas

Improved Essays
The moral issue in case study 5 was a challenging situation for me to begin with. My personal ethical decision choice turned out to be unethical or immoral compared to the text. I eventually had to change my way of thinking and view Ms. Greens dilemma the way the book would. The decision I believe is the most ethical when pertaining to Ms. Green's situation is, she should disregard Matthew's family financial situation because he was caught cheating and give him the B he deserved. Giving him a B means Matthew will not qualify for the scholarship because he needs an A and eventually he will not be able to attend college. I decided on this resolution because the other options did not seem like the moral right thing for Ms. Green to do. The other options included, Ms. Green should speak to the school administrators and see if they can help with her decision, Ms. Green can give Matthew an extra assignment to make up Matthew's grade from a B to a A or Ms. Green can just give Matthew the A so he can receive the scholarship …show more content…
Her teaching career is just as important as Matthew's scholarship to college but he risked that by cheating and he must deal with the consequences of his actions.
For objection number three, Ms. Green is just handing Matthew the necessary grade he needs to get his scholarship even when he does not deserve it. Matthew is a cheater regardless of his family situation and regardless of what a bright student he is. He should be given the grade he earned and that is the B.
(1) Ms. Green can give Matthew an extra assignment to make up Matthew's grade from a B to a A.
(2) Ms. Green should speak to the school administrators and see if they can help with her decision.
(3) Ms. Green can just give Matthew the A so he can receive the scholarship and go to
